How do i mod a diesel engine????

Postby stalker » Thu Feb 22, 2007 10:58 pm

AHAHAHHAHAHAHAH...i actually want to mod my 2.4 diesel engine!!!
Yes i know...im mad, but hey, its something different
Now i must admit, i know i wont be doing 10sec 1/4's or anything, but i wouldnt mind wiping the smiles off some of the honda owners out there!

I havent quite decided yet as to sticking with my current 2.4, or upgrading to the 3ltr turbo diesel engine, but any mod tips i can get will help no matter which way i go.

does anyone have ANY ideas on how to mod a diesel and where to start etc??????????

p.s. oh yea, i want to keep the diesel engine as i drive at least 100kms each day!

funnily enough the work van from my old work had the 3 litre turbo diesel slightly modified.

just a good exhaust a good air filter and it felt heaps better, the shop did something else to it which i dont think the boss understood so could never fully explain but i get the feeling they either mucked with the afm to trick the computer, or just simply upped the boost somehow im not quite sure, i reckon go for the 3 litre turbo if you know what your doing and can do it relativily straight fowards

Thanx heaps....yea i have those in the works to get done.
and sadly no its a non-turbo, so i was wondering what else i could do without going to the expense and hassle of doing an engine swap???

its all in the injector pump timing, if you haven't got a puffer on the side you're bag of tricks is pretty empty before you've even started unfortuneitly

However I can hook you up with a set of new headers with the gasket supplied for $230 + freight + gst

you can if you know what you are doing adjust the fuel quantity mixture in the pump.

Dad did it to our 2.4 non turbo.

You need to be careful though as a little bit of movement is a big lot of adjustment.

can tweak the fuel screw on back of the pump,
if you go to far it will lose power and black smoke like a bitch,
1/4- 1/2 a turn is the most youd want to try.

it is the screw that is lock wired, has a lock nut and an adjuster screw in the center.

only thing id ever bother to do to one is turbo it,
a lot easier to turbo a diesel than a petrol

2.4 non turbs... you will never get that scaring anything at the lights.

Solid as motors, but I would be suprised if you could do over 120kmph...

Our 2.4 2wd Hilux can do 120 towing my race car.

Unhook the race car and it may get to 121.

you sure the absolute top speed goes up when empty??

we had an old 2.4l Hiace when i was carting furniture that topped at 110km/h empty, but would sit on 130 loaded to the gunwhales and trailer in tow.

to make it go better, open exhaust, let it breathe, and micro time the injector pump. i suppose a reprofiled cam may create a gain as well.

With an opened up inlet and exhaust my 1.5 starlet can do 155. On that car getting rid of the factory inlet hose made the biggest gain.

I used to drive a Nissan Vanette 2.0 non-turbo diesel (late 80's one I think) the speedo only went to 140km but I had it off the clock on the motorway numerous times. Took its time to get there but didn't seem to mind doing it, never overheated or anything. Going around corners was a different story though!

The 2.4's are known for S#$tting the self with getting more power out of them, to be honest most hi power diesel motors dont like heads. The 1KZ's dont like heard either.

Bite the bullet and sell the diesel engine and throw a supra engine in it. From my 2.4 turbo D to the 2.8 5mgeu cost about the same to run once you account for road tax. You wont regeret the swap, it makes them such an easy nice truck to drive.
