20v and ae85 rev cut?

Postby Meadzy » Mon Apr 23, 2007 9:56 pm

my cars a ae85 with 20v silvertop, iv been lead believe these engines are ment to rev to about 8200-8500?

i raced at the drags on friday and hit some sort of rev cut at 7900.. unsure if its the factory rev limit its just it didnt sound like a normal limiter would, more like a fuel cut or something similar.

iv also read elsewhere about putting the silvertop into a previously non-efi car can decrease the rev limit due to the speed sensor or something. unsure if this is true or not?

is anyone able to shed a bit of light on this or is it purely normal?

thanks
hayden

Max power is approx at 7400rpm so no point reving to 8200-8500 and the rev cut is what you are experencing at 7900rpm.

If the speed sensor is not fitted in you car then the factory speed cut is now disabled.

could also query the accuracy of the rev counter - not much between 79 and 82 - could easily be out that much

If the factory setup AE101's with 20v's you will find that the factory revcounter over reads. i.e. actual revcut might be 7900rpm but revcounter might read 8300rpm.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

yep i know theres no more power over that but was concerned a bit as it felt more like a fuel surge or something similar. but yer could just be normal and its using a manual ecu.

also wouldnt know about speed cut..havnt gone that fast yet

you on toymods?

ill have a look again bu t i read a thread recently there with the same issue

turns out theres a wire in the dash that if not connected properly lowers the rev limit

i had the same problem with my blacktop, it was the speed signal not being hooked up, u can get a speed signal from the ae85 dash, i have a pic of it,

failing that then check the codes and see what comes out,

my auto ecu constantly sees 8300rpm, sometimes as high as 8450

but thats about as useful as a power tornado intake

This guy will be right.

If you havnt got the speed sensor hooked up, lowers revlimit in silvertops (and does far worse in a blacktop...).

Find a 20v factory car, and sit still in netural and rev it up to hit revcut, have a look where it cuts, and then go do it while driving. Fair bit of a difference.

If you don't have a speed sensor hooked up, I'm pretty sure the diagnostics mode doesn't work.

im sure it would work, it would just give you a code for faulty speed sensor

i made a 555 circuit to fake the speed input. worked well as otherwise the ecu stayed in limp mode or whatever you want to call it, so no vvt etc

15.9? isnt that pretty slow for a lighter car with a 20v in it? my mate got a 15.7 in his ae101.

sounds like something's not quite right
