4agze ecu with turbo ? is it doable or better avoided?

Postby jdm 102 » Tue Apr 24, 2007 12:00 pm

"I think your research is wrong, but go right ahead. I think it will never be as nice a car with a turbo on it. The stock ECU does not have the correct fuel or timing maps for a turbo, which puts totally different demands on the engine."

Is what a mechanic (whom I've been intouch with regarding whether to go SC14 or Turbo) , thats what he said to me when I said of turbo on the stock ecu (well to start it up, a t28) mind you I plan to run it on stock ecu for about 2 months til which time I could afford a decent ecu, just that doing one big hit $$ doesn't suit myself lol..

what does the community here say? because I'm sure I've read about stock ecus on the gze running turbo at about 12psi.

obviously itll never run as mint as it would on a aftermarket system, which imo you should just bite the bullet and get.

afaik afm gzes can go to 16-18psi, but are leaning out at that stage,

itll run, just depends how well and what damage is being caused

they are fine and run sweet,
if you want more boost better to go aftermarket ecu,

standard fuel gear and map ecu tend to max out at 11-12psi depending on your turbo, as ,long as you upgrade the fuel system, bigger pump and injectors you shud be sweet,

yeah it will be sweet....

Had my fuel checked on the dyno with stock e.c.u and it was a little lean down low upto 8psi, but then it started richening up the a/f after that. I ran it for months on end Turbo, with a high setting of 11-12psi and had no problems at all. Drove it fairly hard aswell...

like Simon says if you want to get rid of the restrictions and want more boost which I guarentee you will!, aftermarket e.c.u and a good tune.

I ran stock ae101 computer on a 4agte for a while

made really good power, stock ecus have a few problems with faulty knock control which stunted mine a bit (uncommon). I was running 11:1 @ 9psi boost throughout full RPM with standard reconditiond injectors.

No modifications needed on the computer to run the turbo. As TNT said just check the A/F ratio, use an adjustable fuel pressure reg if you want to modify a/f without changing to aftermarket computer.
