easiest struts for brake upgrade - ke35 or ae85?

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Sat Jun 23, 2007 2:19 pm

not sure if anyone will have a definite answer, but which would be the easiest / cheapest struts to do a good brake upgrade on - ke35 or ae85?
would want something like 10" vented disks, for a 4agte conversion.

i know with ae85 brakes you can bolt the ae86 disks + brakes on but I would want something bigger than that, and I'm sure I could get something better for probably the same price! is there anything bigger which would bolt on with relatively few mods?

as far as I know there is nothing bigger that will bolt on to the ke35 struts.

obviously both struts would need modifying, but which would be easiest / require least mods to fit bigger brakes? or would they both require the same sort of work?

thanks.

im looking at doing a crx disk conversion on my ke10, it uses 236mm vented disks onto standard hubs. Havent done it yet but its seems do able. Otherwise i know people who have made Cressida struts fit ke20s, will need some work tho

so you have ae85 ones as well?

iirc skyline calipers bolt to the ae86, so theres an option
a search through the DBA catalouge may find you some bigger rotors that will fit.
you can also look at the #a6# series celicas etc for bigger brakes.
though they will prob need more mods to fit.

theres probably alot more info out there on the ae85/6 setup, might be easier to find something workable without having to invent it from scratch.

get GX71, GZ10 struts or similar, then get R30 hubs and GTST calipers and discs. its all a bolt on affair bar the 1mm washer on that caliper. in saying that tho, im sure "just a GX71 or GZ10 brake setup would be more than sufficent in a SR coupe, hell even AE85 is a BIG improovement, i just put really good pads ($400 retail) and fluid in my old ae85 and it stopped on a dime. :D
