Postby tsoob » Tue Jun 26, 2007 2:25 am

i have been in the shed all night with a mate trying to get the cv's back into the box, and have had no oy pleanty of swearing and skin lost from fingers, is there a trick to getting the splines into the box? it is about the lat 30mm to go on the passanger side but we cant get it fully in.

is the circlip actually going in, or is this the point at which it is getting stuck? (often this can be an issue. Ive found positioning it correctly with some grease helps)

try connecting it to the hub and push on the hub, less pain ;)

Usually easiest to get it most of the way in and have the outer CV in the hub with the bottom ball joint not in, then give give it a swing so the weight of the hub pushes on the drive shaft and pops the inner CV into place.

Failing that, get someone to hold the hub out of the way (without the outer CV in it) and line the driveshaft up with the inner CV so you're trying to push straight into the box, hold the inner CV in place and give it a push so the inner CV goes into itself and hits the CV into place (if you get what I mean).

Failing that, hold the shaft in line as above and bash the outer CV with a hammer until it goes in :) Being careful not to damage the outer CV of course, otherwise it migth be hard to get the nut back on

yip, and check to see if the circlip has been damaged in previous attempts to insert the CV. often the end will curl a wee bit if you try to get too forceful.

Im having exactly the same problem with my passengers side one as well. The first bit goes in but the last bit just wont go in. Ive tried doing it for hours. I think the circlip is a bit out of shape or something..

should only take a soft tap to get it in, if you are bashing the fu*k out of it something aint right. if the circlip jams it will burr the splines. Then you have to dress it up with a file and fit a new clip.
