Cam lobe separation...

Postby jondee86 » Thu Jan 03, 2008 7:47 pm

Does anyone know what the lobe separation is supposed to be
on a stock 4AGE smallport with OEM cams ??

I have adjustable pulleys without markings, and I would like to
start off by degreeing the cams to stock specifications. Searching
brings up squat, except that it will be somewhere between 100-100
and 110-110 :?

Cam timing...

Postby jondee86 » Sat Jan 05, 2008 10:13 am

Yeah, I saw that they say 111-111 for stock cams, but then it goes
on to say that good power has been found at 100-100 8O

This is a huge variation, and I seriously doubt if both figures can be
correct. So unless I can find another reference, I will have to put some
stock pulleys back on, and measure my own cams.

Had a look and for the 232's it only says the opening timings.

for the bluetop (Stock -max lift @ 111°) for intake and exhaust.

it says that some people have altered them to 100-100, which is a lot of overlap, I doubt the stock ecu would like it.

Id set it to 111-111 and then have a play round on the dyno.

Probably not much to be gained though without sacrificing other parts of the powerband

Just in case you were wondering :))

In the absence of a more authoritive number, I set the cam lobe
C/L's at 110-110 to provide a convenient baseline. They had been
running at 112.5 intake and 108 exhaust. The difference was barely
noticeable... runs a tiny bit smoother and quieter, so I guess I might
have lost a hp or two :-|

I also measured the duration for the "232 degree" cams :
Duration @ 0.006" lift = 232 degrees
Duration @ 0.050" lift = 192 degrees
Total lift = 0.280" (7.11 mm)

Could be useful if you are wanting to compare with aftermarket cams.
