Cam timing

Postby Dell'Orto » Tue Jan 08, 2008 12:23 am

Finally got around to dialling in my cam (4K, with adjustable cam gear).
As the cam gear doesn't have any markings as such, I've been fiddling back and forth til I basically got sick of doing so

I've got it pretty close, but is about 1º retarded from the recommended spec. Realistically, will it make a noticable difference? I know theoretically it'll lose a little low end and gain it up high, but is it worth pissing around with the camgear for another 1º or will it be fine as is?

Tweaks....

One degree at the crank is hardly likely to make a difference. Thats
about the sort of difference you can expect from kryptonite tipped plugs,
an electric turbo, or those magnetic fuel conditioners.

So long as you reset your ignition timing after fiddling with the cam, you
should be good to go :)

I reckon the flex in the cam chain while running will give it more than 1 degree.
