Thats true, but have you tried driving a dedicated 4wd tamiya in RWD? almost impossible! FWD is alot more manageable :lol:

and it totally depends on car and engine config for the original question!

you would in most cases need to weld/ lock up the centre diff and remove the front halfshafts.

My cousin did this on a legacy but i havnt seen it personally

in some cars you can pull a fuse(skylines) and they will go rwd but im not sure how good it is for them.

depends on the car and how good the rear diff is. skylines have a decent rear diff , subaru's are pretty weak, evos are so-so etc etc

most cars that are 4wd only factory will not appreciate being made rwd, in fact they will probly spit out parts quite quickly. no point using things for a different purpose than what they were designed for.

agreed... 4WD has plenty of advantages... I can't see why you'd destroy a perfectly good 4WD...

If you want RWD, buy a RWD... !

Being RWD screws the chassis balance too, all bar the GT-R/S-4 with their ATTESA system always expect some drive from the front and are setup to suit.

If you're thinking of making a 4WD car like a celica into RWD for drifting, you won't be too competitve. They spin out like no tomorrow, the suspensions just ain't made for RWDness.

But if you insist....... I heard you take out the front CV's, weld a plate to block the hole from the gearbox, and lock the center diff. But your rear diff will probably cry as it's not designed to take all the power instead of sharing the load along with the front wheels.

any E-W FWD car will have really poor balance if converted to RWD, this is the reason why Subaru is a popular option.

Note that the subary wrx used in one of the drift series has re-done the rear end with skyline running gear for this exact reason.

I've driven a non-turbo impreza that was RWD(removed and flanged front shafts, welded centre diff), and it was fun as hell, albeit under powered being a non-turbo.

It wasn't as nice to drive as the factory car, felt like it was missing something(yeah yeah, I know, insert 2wd joke here), ut it was fun like any other RWD car.

RWD is where its at baby.

I was looking at the ST165 GT4 and you could do it with a little bit of work, but the centre diff and the rear diff will blow in days. They are only built to take 50% power. You start feeding it 100% power and its gonna get pissed off real quick (especially if your doing skids and drifting you put a hell of a lot more stress on the components.

Cut out a transmission tunnel in the car and stuff a altezza box and rear in a gt4 would be the way to go.

and magically the n/s engine will bolt right up to the factory mounts made for e/w... not to mention being down on power, and the flex you would have in the chassis because it's not designed for a n/s engine config.

If you want a RWD car, start with one, it's cheaper and easier.

If only they were the only problems you'd encounter, lol

What about the steering rack that ends up going through the bellhousing,
and the six million other problems we encountered.

A car is either RWD or it is not.
Trying to make a FWD to RWD is not the answer,
possible yes,
pratical no.

In Tokyo drift the red evo has been converted from 4wd to rwd (i think i says so in the special features somewhere)
