Correct procedure to remove 4age crankshaft key?

Postby ~SlideWays~ » Thu Jan 31, 2008 3:23 pm

So does anybody have tips on how to remove a key from a 4age crankshaft key without damaging it?

I have a bit of a project car that has a broken key, the keyway looks fine so was just going to take the key from a parts engine...but fk me the bastard won't move, swimming in CRC and all!

Any help would be appreciated.

I dunno why but 4ages always get real siezy around that area of the crank. Ive had to drill off 2 cam belt pulleys off engines before just to get the crank out to do bearings.

You could try a cold chisle or cooling down the key/heating up the crank (not to much tho). To much heat and you could seriously $&#$% the crank, and beating it might not be the best idea.

Might be easier to buy a key from an engineering supply store or get one made instead.

that doesnt always work, i ended up having to get a new one and the one i was trying to get off is still on the end of the crank of another engine.
