C5x gearboxes

Postby xsspeed » Mon Mar 31, 2008 5:16 pm

hey guys did a search on the diffrences between c52 and c56 gearboxes.
I have a silvertop motor, and was tryna find out what i have, is the only difference the 3rd and 4th gear ratios? some posts said this and others said that there is a difference in the backing plates?

when did the c56 come in, was it with the 'later' model silvertop that i have heard about?

based on personal preference/experience what is the best box to bolt up to a n/a 4age?

think i also read that the c56 has lsd, or is that rubbish?

and finally what is the 6spd from the likes of a bz carib? (or is that the c56) and is it a worthwhile buy?

cheers guys

I can't answer it all, but.

c56 can be open and lsd afaik

6 speed seem to be weaker than the 5 speeds and expensive to rebuild, so not worth the wank factor / stupid money people want for them

c56 in later ae101's and 5speed 20v ae111's

BZV c56 has a lsd, you may find some others with them? but not that common, the 6speed lsd will fit the 5speed... all bzr box's = LSD

the ae101 c52 is the same as the c56 asides from 3rd and 4th... bit shorter help keeping in the power.

I have a few C50's and I think 3rd is too high. So a lower 3rd would probably be a good idea.

http://ae101.tappsville.com/chassis/ I have the ratios here.

Seems everyone whos had a 6sp had broken them.

I myself went for a C56 as the ratios in 3/4th were 'just' to short for me on the track

I had a donor C56 out of a AE111 5 speed that had a factory LSD in it. Use the 3rd and 4th and final drive in my C52 box found it better for the track but on open road driving I need a 6th gear.
