W55 gearbox shifter - location?

Postby stalker » Tue Jun 10, 2008 1:28 pm

Im looking at a W55 gearbox for my project car, and I found a W55 gearbox for sale.
I asked him what shifter it had (Ie. front, mid, rear etc) and he doesnt know....but, he told me that it was: "the shifter is situated slightly behind the gearbox mount! 30-50mm roud abouts"

Now my question is...does anyone here know what shifter that would be???

Thanx in advance
:)

Yea I had seen that thanx and had a look at it...but sadly I dont have a pic of the gearbox, and its way down south somewhere so I cant go look at it to see which one it is to match it off that post.
Plus all the other posts in here had the measurements taken from the front of the trans, not the mounts sadly.

Thats why I asked if anyone knew what it would be from the mounts.
Thanx for letting me know though.

Does anyone here have a W55 in there garage they could measure for me??

Im just wanting to know what the shifter position is (on the one im looking at buying)...and sadly the only measurement he is giving me is "30-50mm behind the gearbox mounts"

So I guess, if your able to please, measure the distance from the gearbox mount to the shifter its self, then let me know if its the same or more compared to your box?? (and also what shifter position you have that you measured off).

Am I making sence?? (sorry if im not)

It really depends on where he's taken the measurements from, but on mine, it's around 75mm from the center of where the mount bolts to the box to the center of the shifter hole.

Thats on a rear position (not remote) shift box. May be easier to ask him to take the same measurement as used on the retretech site.

Im after mid and/or rear.
Wanting to put it into my AE85, and from the research ive done, I was told that im after the mid or rear.
:)

And yea, Ive asked him, but hes been cagey, so im guessing its going to be a front shifter.

I could be convinced to part with my spare box. Was keeping for a top secret project but I may never get the chance to go ahead with it and I could do with some $$ for my current project.

no such thing as a W55 position as such.
Its determined by which chassis of car the gearbox came in.

Yea sorry, i had worded it wrong.
was meant to be: w55 gearbox...shifter location?

Tis all good...I have my answer now. He sent me a pic in the end and turned out that it was the front shifter (which wouldnt fit in my car)

Thanx all
