LSD Identification

Postby 85AW20v » Mon Dec 22, 2008 9:26 am

Can anyone identify what make of clutch LSD I've got? The letters from left to right are 2 - Z - K. The symbol is like two forward slashes with a fullstop - //. - and a "1" further to the right. There are four square holes around the case, one with the cutout.

The hole in the centre is bigger than either of the ones in that thread. Best measurement I could work out using a felt pen that almost slid through was about 15.5mm.

Have had to pull it apart to clean it out after problems with the rest of the box and have found that it is adjustable from 2-way to either 1.5 or 1-way, not sure which, just by relocating the four pinion carrier into a different cutout shape. One shape is even angles both ways like this
\_/ and the other is \_| although not quite 90 degrees.

yeah TRD ones do that, and TRD LSD was a popular option on the AW11s when new

It's got six plates - two sets of three - either side of a four pinion carrier that has the 16mm hole through it. One set of plates has four tags to the outside, the other to the inside. The external tagged plates have radial oil lines in them both sides and the internal tagged plates have spiral oil lines. In the photo's looking down on the diff, you can see the radial lines in the holes beside the bearing. On each side there is also an almost flat washer - I wouldn't call it a cone but it definitely has an angle on it. I think this is what gives the tension/preload to the clutch plates once it's all assembled. The pinion carrier sits between two machined pieces and it is these that have the different cutout shapes in them as explained earlier.

Just found this image on Bill Sherwoods site which shows pretty much how mine looks except I don't see the cone washers in there. http://www.billzilla.org/trdlsd2.jpg

You can see the cutout idea on the Cusco site here. Mine is basically the same as the MZ at the bottom of the page. http://www.cusco.co.jp/en/parts_product ... ypemz.html
