Altezza front sway removal.

Postby barryogen » Sun Feb 08, 2009 2:40 pm

So I got a TRD front sway bar cheap as chips($100 second hand), but I'm having trouble removing the end bolts off the factory one, the rest of the bits are off.

The end bolts are loosened, but they are turning, but they appear from feeling them(can't get my fat head in far enough) that they are coach bolts, as in rounded head...

Anyone got a clue on this?

At a guess, get a hex socket that will fit the middle and undo the nut while holding the centre. If the link arm is like most other Toyotas then you're basically just turning the inside of the ball joint in the arm.

Either that or get a set of vice grips in on the other side of the sway bar to hold the middle bit from turning.

you'll find some swaybar links have a squared off flange on the back so you can get a spanner on there too

I had to soak the bugger with CRC for a day before I could get mine to turn. They get a bit rustewd and gummed up by all the normal road grime and stuff like that.

If its got a little bit of a sway going on, I'd stop letting the front go to the pub so often

If it has cheap sway bar links, no opening for an allan?-key at the end.. its hacksaw or rattle gun time

HRT wins the beer, it was indeed an "internal" hex.
Got them off, and back on.
Makes quite a difference, certainly takes the tail happy nature out off it.

Buying a decent tool set now, and probably a matching rear sway bar too.
