ae101 4agze troubleshooting (no spark)

Postby cogent » Sun Nov 22, 2009 6:34 pm

OK, I have an aw11 with a AE101 4AGZE in it.
I'm running the stock ECU with a cut-down harness (possibly root cause #1).

Turning the key to STA will cause the starter to crank the engine over.
With the key set to IGN;

12v at the injectors
12v at the coil plugs
12v to the igniter unit
12v to the fuel pump

however! no spark at the sparkplugs!

I have tried the following to remedy this issue

Confirmed that all 4 wires from the CAS have conductivity at the ECU plugs
Confirmed conductivity between the igniter and the coil plugs
Confirmed conductivity between the igniter and the ecu on pins IGF and IGT
Ground the igniter unit and confirmed conductivity between the igniter casing and random parts of the engine bay/chassis

I'm pretty much at a loss for where to go next. I know the CAS and coils are ok, because i have had the car running using these parts with a link ecu.

anyone in wellington have a AE101 4AGZE that I can test my igniter unit in? bonus points if i can test my ECU at the same time (but i understand if this is too big a hassle due to the location of the ecu in the dash).

cheers, ive managed to find a igniter on trademe now so hopefully i can find a way of eliminating the ecu as a root cause also.

Do you have 12v at all those points during cranking?

ok i've done a quick check. The ignition switched source i'm using drops to 9v during cranking. This is the same at the coils also. Im going to setup a relay that is switched with ignition but provides 12v from the battery, to see if that helps.

$15 sounds like a deal. Is it a AE101 4AGZE one? Think you could give it to Sue and i'll grab it off him tomorrow?

I'll go try a different battery now, the one i'm using is putting out 12v and has been on charge overnight, but its not the newest. Also trying a different battery eliminates another root cause I suppose.
