Battery positioning and mounting (sealed)

Postby MrOizo » Mon Jan 10, 2011 1:38 pm

Been looking at the sealed batteries and wondering if these can be mounted on their side. At this stage under the floor where there is a bit of room.

They are wet ones but sealed - are these to simply make these maintenance free?

It's really only to keep a second alternator happy when the batteries in the trailer aren't connected. Will something small-ish be fine here?

Also, anyone got a hook up? :)

Cheers.

Although the batteries are sealed they will still leak eventually if left on there side unfortunately, so can only be installed upright.

Assuming you are meaning the maintenance free automotive batteries?

Adrian might be also meaning batteries out of the jumper packs... are they gel or liquid? Do they care about orientation.

Ken
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Those gel batteries from jump packs etc (Think they're AGM actually) arent terribly concerned with their orientation
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

Thanks Cam.

I wasnt talking about the starter pack ones as such but might as well include these. I was more interested in a 'sealed' battery tht can be found at the main retailers like Ripco and SuperCheap.

I will look into a AGM/Starter Pack based battery - putting on its side should save a bit of space and give good clearence.

Cheers.
