fuel cut defender yay or neigh

Postby tim_blair » Fri Jan 14, 2011 1:22 am

standed 4age BT fuel cut seems to be around 4 psi
if i install a fuel cut defender and run 4 psi will i harm my engine
it currently runs nicely at 3 psi

this is currently a small step while i gather funds to get a new engine with gze rods and pistons and a link
girl: can I trust you?
me: you can trust anything :D

What fuel cut defender does is limiting voltage on the map sensor. Unless you have some form of extra injectors that take over, fuel cut defender will destroy your engine.

Don't bother and go straight for link. It will be cheaper in the long run.

don't even bother running any boost through a std blacktop with std rods. it will destroy it in a flash. blacktop rods can't even handle being used in a NA engine, yet alone any sort of boost.

i hope you aren't trying to use the std plenum as well??

ive got gze rods and pistons just need to save to get them put in

my setup is mint i have made a good alloy plenum with trumpts etc

ok ill limit my boost so it doesnt fuel cut rather than get a defender

do you care if your engine goes? if not, go hard and test the limits. but running boost on a stock blacktop block is asking for trouble, though i haven't done it myself. always wondered if it was the rods, or the rod bolts that let go in saying that.

when you say it runs fine at 3 psi, are you checking fueling etc?

there was a guy running 5-6 psi (if my memory is right), on a stock silvertop, turbo'ed with a link, when it was generally thought impossibile beforehand. so you never know...

Cool, so by the time your ready to fit them
it will have tossed a rod and you will have to get a new block and crank to go with them..

...and head and valves... and if unlucky, when the pieces of piston\valve make it to the turbo...

as said, blacktops aren't strong enough in NA form.

its no good saving up to put the good parts in and run boost on the engine anyway on its factory high rpm thin rods - they will quit and they will exit the block and then along with pistons and rods you get to replace the block and most likely the head as well

honestly dont push a stock blacktop with boost - it will push back and throw a rod based tanty and leave you with an even more expensive rebuild than planned 8O

are there cases of na blacktops throwing rods that haven't run bearings?

Interested to know that too. I think half the problems would be running them low on oil and not using them for their intended use. They aren't race motors.

I've seen one 1st hand... and i've never seen a bluetop throw a rod, even with run bearings :D

Balls to that. If a factory engine in a factory configuration can't run at red line, then it's got a design flaw.

Different story if you get oil starvation from high cornering Gs though.
