On my motor there's quite a substantial 'mismatch' in size between the base part of the intake manifold, and the ports.
Just wondering if this is normal?
I'm thinking that normally the port might match with the base part of the intake manifold, but has perhaps been widened.
Otherwise I'm thinking this could be something to do with air mixing with fuel as best possible, (as this is near the injector) or to minimise reversion or something.
Does the gasket normally sit near flush with edge of head, but lots of overlap on base part of manifold?
Like so:

Head:

I'm thinking that there could be some benefits by matching the upper wall of the intake manifold section to the top edge of the port.
Thoughts?
