Where to start on my BZR

Postby Peradx » Fri Aug 15, 2003 7:24 pm

I`ve just brought a 97 levin bzr and apart from 15" mags and what seems to be a larger pipe than standard going to the muff, it`s stock.

What I`m after is little tricks I can do or get done to this machine.
Bigger plans can be made when I got more cash to spend.

First things you should always do when you buy a new car is getting it running 100% mint by replacing spark plugs, fuel filter, check timing etc and then start looking at cold air intake, exhuast, cams blablabla........

on a 4age (the silvertops mainly but i think it counts for the blacktop) the best thing u can do is get ur catalytic converter taken out, this really makes a huge differnce in power, make sure its getting planty of cold air these are cheapbaisc mods and gova lot of return

well one of the easiest ways to gain power is to get rid of those rear tail lights and put some BZ-G ones in.

And have i got a deal for you!! I will swap you (send no money) my BZ-G tail lights for your BZ-R tail lights for free!

Now you cant ask for a better deal than that!

And if you call within the next 10 days i will swap spoilers at no extra charge! :D

Hey dude, whats the gearing like with a 6 speed? How many rpms are you doing at 100km/h in 4th, 5th, 6th?

backing up the question about the six speed... Once you start getting a little more serious silvertop rods are stronger, but I would look at a computer, apparently when it comes down to it the VVT is set for emitions rather that all out power, so get that changed by someone who knows what they are doing and that should help, you will probably find it will help driveability too

update

Postby Peradx » Sat Aug 23, 2003 3:01 am

Over the past two days I have spent a few $$$ doing oil change, pod filter plus creature comforts such as the soundz that have been sitting in my room for 3yrs.
Next week my tom’s 16" mags get fixed and painted and lowered 45mm.
In two or three weeks a complete end-to-end custom intake, extractors and exhaust system will be put into place. (thank god for mates with the hook ups)
Oh, one other thing I managed to pick up a front lip off another BZR at NZ car parts, they sold it to me for $50. But it turns out to be worth $286us! (car`nt remember the brand thou)

Any way thanks for the ideas and keep them coming.

k. well i have a bzg and noticed that the best things ive dont to my car is prb getting the VVTC on it. you can set it from 2000rpm and you feel alot of power.
next i would say exhaust (freeflow  ) and then do some interior work, donno like short shift, streering wheel, meh you know the rest.

Thats all good but what about the six speed? It is something I have been desperate to know about, what rev drops do you get from one gear to the next? and what sort of revs do you pull in sixth at 100. What is the shift like too

Gear box

Postby Peradx » Sun Aug 24, 2003 10:24 pm

I`m still getting use to it but, in 6 gear I`m doing just under 3000.
having to extra gear means I`m staying in the power range while I`m giving it everything. being able to go an extra 500rpm helps to, htou I don`t take it that far.
If anyones after BZR parts call NZ car parts in wellington. They`ve got a white one at the mo.

i was told by a bz-r owner here in dunedin that the 6 sp feels slower than a 5sp bz-g.

the reason being the 6 sp needs to go into 4th on the qmile, where the 5sp hits 3rd gear high end at that time. thus losing momentium :( and hitting the traps slower.

i was planning on getting a 6sp, and getting all 5 gears redone, for accel setup, and the 6th for a cruiser, nice high speed setup (almost supra like, drop in rpm in 6th) only for fuel and junk though, dont wanna be ringing it out in 6th gear at 100kph :D.

they can't be going fast enough down the 1/4, I need to change to 4th in my 5speed, 3rd isn't THAT long :P and without the change to 4th I would be on limiter for a bit

fit a massive turbo on the front!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i find on the 1/4 i hit the rev limiter in 3rd just before the line, either requiring sitting on the limiter for a split second or changing into 4th just before limiter, i recon the 6spd would be helpful in this situation

oh, so you were the white one on the cruise to arthurs pass for magameet aye?

yeah, most of the time its a 50/50 decision for me, sometimes i can get accross the line in 3rd, and sometimes i'll hit the limiter or have to change into 4th, Must be something to do with the launches??
