From Single Pot To Twin Pot For ae111/ae101

Recently i have converted my bzr to mc pherson strut setup. I have tried bolting on the superstrut caliper and rotors to my mc pherson hub but its not fitting only one bolt lines up seems like gota grind something off it.

Is there anything factory out there that i can straight bolt on? Just take out my single pot caliper with rotors and replace it with twin pot with rotors.

Has to be straight bolt on.

if you use the Mac ae rotors and a set of st185 gt4 celica twinpot calipers its straight bolt up (cant remember about the brake lines tho) plus the gt4 pots are 1-2mm bigger then the s/s ones :p

otherwise I think you just file down part of the s/s caliper so it doesnt catch

Do you mean the piston sizes in the caliper are bigger? Why would you think thats a good thing?

calipers should nearly bolt straight up. ive done it. you do need to grind a small amout of metal off the bottom of the caliper. doesnt weaken the caliper. the rotors (if using ss rotors) need to be turned down slightly. will do it for a box of beers but im in hamilton.

You can turn down the rotors??
You say grinding a small bit of metal out of the caliper, what about the ss caliper bracket??

Are the st185 gt4 rotors the same size as the ae101 BZ rotors??

There are two sizes: 254mmx24mm and 278mmx24mm . The AE101 GT-Apex are 254mmx24mm (I believe).

to fit ae111 twin pots to ms.

A bit of grinding. (not quite this much is required)

then have the 275mm twin pot rotors milled down to 262mm.

And make some new brake lines. Which are pretty much MS lines, slightly longer with a SS caliper fitting on the caliper end.

I run st202 curren/celica ones and they bolted up with no dramas. Also i run SS discs without them being modified

Yeah, it looks like that.

My Non-SS AE101 were identical to ST165 pre-facelift rotor apart from the following: AE101 had 55mm centre hole vs 54mm on ST165, and obviously stud holes (4x100 vs 5x100).

ST185 Rotors also have 54mm centre hole, so no: without machining the centre hole you cannot use them on AE101 or AE111. Additionally ST185 rotors come in two sizes 254mm (twin pot variant) and 278mm (single pot variant).

I think you can use ST202 rotors as they are 55mm in centre, only thing needed is to redrill to 4x100. Additionally ST202 stuff is much easier to come by.

Just dredging this up -

I am putting together a plan for brakes for my ee80 that I'm dropping the beams 3s into:

Can I get confirmation on the need to grind down the 275mm discs when using a MS AE111 hub with BZR twinpots?

Otherwise, am I correct in reading I can use the 275mm discs with MS hubs, if I use st202 twinpots?
Any particular st202 model I should be chasing (SS-II/III or just any with a 3sge (3sfe?))

Now to check I kept my AE111 MS front hubs!

Thanks neo, and so the way to keep them at 275 is to use the st202 callipers?

Are the st202 callipers the same whether they are superstrut or not?

I couldn't find any calipers when I recently went to pick a part but I use st202 calipers on my wagon. I believe they are non superstrut ones.

regarding ST202 brake caliper info

SS-II 94-95
with superstrut and E56-07C lsd gearbox and 3sge
has twin pots

SS-II 96-97
without superstrut. with S54-06A gearbox and 3sge
has single pots

SS-II 97-99
without superstrut. with S54-06A gearbox and beams 3sge
has twin pots

SS-III 96-99
with superstrut and S54-06D lsd gearbox and 3sge and beams 3sge
has twin pots

The single piston caliper specs:
Piston Diameter: 57mm
Piston Count: 1
Total Piston Area: 2551.76mm2 (25.5176cm2)

The twin piston caliper specs:
Piston Diameter: 40.4mm
Piston Count: 2
Total Piston Area: 2563.79mm2 (25.6379cm2)

Thanks rusty, was trying to navigate my way through 6gc but was having issues finding consistent info! Was hoping you'd see this.

So for all of those twin pots do they take the same sized disc - 275 x 25mm?

Edit: seems I have given away my ae111 hubs, does anyone know if the same can be achieved with ae82 hubs and the 275mm discs with st202 hubs?

I'm guessing something like the disc shields will get in the way if not something like offset being different.
