4A-FE & 4A-GE

Postby Rice_Burner » Sun Jul 15, 2012 9:45 pm

Hey everyone.

im new to this site and after a fair bit of time searching over the forum without any luck of finding some info. just wanted to know, are parts off any of the 4A-GE's compatabile with the 4A-FE, for example i have a Ae111 trueno with a 4A-FE and i was after a short shifter, but all i can find are 4A-GE 20v blacktop shortshifters, i also had a problem with my injectors, they are getting old and i suspect they are due for replacement, can i replace them with 4AGE injectors? Any help considering the chop and changeable parts between the two engines would be appreciated as im always up to tinker arround with my car.

Cheers

Short shifter is in cabin, to the best of my knowledge the shifter cable connection points are the same (would make no sense for toyota to manufacture a different gear shifter mechanism for different engines in the same cabin)

As for injectors? I am not 100% sure but my gut feeling is they would be different. Why do you think they need to be replaced?

There is a wealth of knowledge on this forum (I am not part of that wealth  ) - so let us know what the symptoms of your problem are and I am sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction :-)

Thanks guys!
ill have to look into the short shifter then, may ring up toyota and see what they know.
in terms of my injectors. i think one or more could be on there way out because of a couple reasons.
1. it has a sort of abrupt engine power, as in power wont be smooth throughout the rev range.
2. my idle has recently turned rough, its hard to describe but it abruptly fluxuates around idle revs. which i think is maybe 1 or more injectors not firing when it should.
3. significant reduced gas mileage

to my knowledge i would think that would narrow it down either fuel filter, or injectors. i think maybe before moving onto injectors ill change out the fuel filter and see what happens from there

thanks again guys. appreciate it

All of those could also be ignition related.

Hmmm, thats also a factor. Ive just done the spark plugs and leads. So could it be something to do with the distributor ir rotor or something like that?

Cheers for the feedback man!

Sounds exactly like the symptoms my flatmates old 4afe corolla had.
I pulled off the dizzy cap and cleaned the rotor and lead points with a small wire brush.. this kept it going until he replaced them 8)
Could be worth looking at

I envy those with little interest in cars, for they have money and spare time.

4afe injectors from memory are top feed so no 4age injectors off a blactop/silvertop wont fit

So. I took out my fuel rail and injectors and 2 out of 4 of them have external cracks which in turn have been leaking. Just great.... So if anyone knows if I can use any slightly higher cc injectors would be much appericated cheers!

Unless you've done some reasonably substantial mods, bigger injectors are a waste of time.

i was interested in 4A-GE injectors because i can get a hold of them alot easyer than 4A-FE injectors, not to bothered about performance.
cheers :)

There will be a dozen at any given time at Pick a part? 4AFE's are hardly uncommon.

you might be alright with 16v injectors but just whether have the same fittings at the end..how about going for 7afe injectors if they have any difference?

4AFEs have 16 valves too :P

get the correct injectors to match what you have, its only going to cause you grief otherwise.

Probably cheaper to buy a whole second hand engine than two new TGP injectors. :)

Or get yours tested and cleaned if you think that's where the issue lays. You'll know for sure then if they are good or not.

He said earlier on they're cracked...would just keep an eye on pick a part, wouldnt buy a new genuine injector if I could avoid it!
