Caldina ignition help!

hi all,

I'm in the process of installing a Link G4 Storm to run my Caldina 3s-gte (in my 91 Mr2). Got a couple questions that I've been searching for answers for and hope that some of you may be able to shed light?

1) anybody know what is the stock ignition timing for the Caldina? (10 degree's btdc?
2) is the spark edge rising or falling? (thinking it's falling?)

on the offside chance does anybody got a Link basemap for a caldina they would mind sharing with me :D

Rising but it's a 0-5v square wave signal. So be careful that the period that it's held high is as short as possible if the ECU does not output 5v, or you may burn the coils out.

thanks guys!

just to confirm my understanding is a rising spark fires on the positive side (as I understand it the signal is going from negative to positive)

the reason I'm double checking my understanding is I've been told that toyota's ignitors are mainly falling spark (going from positive to negative) but I guess the Caldina ignitor's are different?

also any idea of the ignitor model number? Also the injector part number (not the toyota one's as I'm trying to find the manufacturer's spec's).

I believe that is correct. However I just checked and now I'm not so sure.

From the following trace it shows IGF, which is the diagnostic return signal firing (pulled low) after the IGN signal goes high, which tends to imply that the coil fires on the rising edge, But the coil primary current is still building and stops on the falling edge :?

Perhaps someone with a better knowledge of auto electrics might be able to determine which is correct.

Trial and error and tech support talking me through using a 15$ led testlight has lead us to knowing it's falling edge since it releases the pulse on a negative signal.

he explained it to me and I thought I had it straight in my mind but as I typed up what I thought he said I just confused myself more!!

In a nutshell though (and paraphrasing) with the test light hooked up to a ground and touching pin2, if it flashes (ie complete the circuit) then it's falling edge (which the stock caldina coils and ecu do). If the test light is hooked up to power and the ignition trigger flashes then it's rising edge.

hopefully someone else can put that into english? :D

btw it now starts with the aftermarket ecu!! gotta run a vacume line to the map sensor and we should be in business.
