It generally makes no difference to cooling. And loop it.

why remove the heater core? is it leaking, or are you stripping it out for racing?

It generally makes no difference,

and don't loop, it block it.

Looping it lets water circulate bypassing the radiator with losing heat,
so the cooling system looses efficiency.

just because i don't plan on driving it daily anymore so id only be driving it on weekends for some fun and taking down the drag strip and taking it to track days so i was just planning on stripping out shit that isn't really needed and i want to tidy up the engine bay as well and those heater hoses are ugly !!

You will need to keep the hoses going to the throttle body as they warm it up, as for the heater hoses you can generally just loop them, I'm not sure what engine you have so can't post specifics.

edit: oh sig lol, still doesn't help me, I don't know how those engines route :p

I've got a feeling that you need a heater for a WOF. Something to
do with de-misting the screen if I remember rightly.

wofs are not an issue i can get them easily enough. but i don't think that would fail a wof would it? i don't think it would be classed as unsafe? and i was thinking of keeping the blower so it would just blow cold air on to the window to de fog it.

Don't need the heater core in, need the fan though or some other demisting option.

Since when? (genuine question, never seen it in the VIRM)

You shouldn't need any form of demisting for a warrant. It comes down to a vehicle operation charge if you're driving with the car fogged up, no a vehicle safety inspection problem. This is the impression I was under.

However,

from the motorsport nz manual

5.11 Windows: shall meet the following requirements;

(3) The front windscreen shall have an effective method of demisting, either by ducting of air, hot wire elements, or have an anti-fogging coating applied...

says air, but not hot air,
or anti-fogging compound but have found that is only good to a point.

You are only pernmitted to make a modification without cert if the VIRM allows it. If not specifically allowed then by default a cert is required.

suprra_girl wrote:... as for the heater hoses you can generally just loop them.

The heater usually takes hot water from the head, runs it thru the
heater core, and returns it to the cooling system. Logic says that
shutting the heater valve off will not prevent the water flowing out
the back of the head. So it would seem that the cooling system
does not care if there is a heater core in the car or not.

Putting a loop of hose where the heater used to be should work,
providing that the water circuit stays essentially the same as when
the heater valve is closed :)

Looping is just adding another bypass.
If you want coolant bypassing the radiator AND don't have a marginal cooling system, do it.
