Pod Filter in a Ae101 20v

Postby pluck » Mon Sep 15, 2003 1:58 pm

How easy is this to do?

Could I do it by myself? what else do I need other that the pod filter?

E.g. can i just remove the stand one and plug the pod filter onto the end of the pipe. I heard I might need some plastic tubing for cold air intake or something?

If your going to put the pod were your air box is with no cold air box dont bother, to fit a pod you need an adapter to bolt onto the afm, i found the best way was get a good panel filter run some pipe from the front of the bumper so its ramed abit... up through the hole in the guard were the resignater box is and then into the factory box, make sure the pipe is cut flush with the box then silicon around it so no air can get in...
but every one has there own tricks... so yea... i had a pod but once the engine bay warmed up went to crap, stalling and shit

Where would you usually put a pod filter, I assumed you would just put it where the air filter is at the moment, sort of as a replacement?

the adaptors for the pod filter dont cost $&#$% all but if your not gonna do a cold air box then a replacement panel would be sweet not sure on cost but would be all you need. iduction pipes would help too

just a filter the same as the one u already have in the air box(panel filter) except beter flowing k&n make one specially and so do several other names you wont have to change any thing just buy the filter unclip the top of your air box and swap it with the old one.

I know this is for an AE92, but it may be similar. Gives you the ideas anyway: http://www.4age.net/tech/coldair.htm

with the factory airbox, a 3" duct will fit straight into the hole in the box where the twisty factory intake goes.. a hold in the inner guard, and intake from narm =)

If you want the best value for $ option go into your local repco or appco store, they have the air flow metre adaptor plates for $20, they also have Simota pod filters for $50. They can also supply a heat sheald for around $30
So for half the price of a K&N panel filter you've got yourself a nice setup.
If you have any problems i will get you the part numbers, failing that if you are in the auckland area come over to Appco in Wairau Rd and ask for Carl and he will suss you out a deal

$10 duct (max)
cost of the filter

iv got this setup.. also since the hole into the air box isnt round sealing off the holes around the tube/box is a must, I used silicon, and if you pull it thought the hole in the inner guard around to the front you can get some RAM happening.
No matter what you do with a 20v you dont really get induction sound

Where did you get your panel filter from?

I know you from about 3 years ago, I thought I recognised the name neo. I used to live in Jville and knew one of your (im guessing) ex girlfriends.

You geeks with your standard 101's
You dont need an air box with your pod, a pod increases air flow 10 times better than your factor air box. My ae111 blacktop 20v has an HKs pod without an air box/heat sheild around it and it is so much better than any factor air box with a k&n in it that i've had in my previous cars.
A K&N panel is going to set you back at least $140-$180 you could put a repco (simota) pod on and build a heat sheild for half that. You can buy small heat sheilds from repco for about $30 also.
AE101 Levins suck !!! get a black top up ya !!!!!!!!

yeah, well get stuck in and make your blacktop produce some real horsepower, then see what happens to your rods to start with, then compare modified figures with a silver top, and don't be too dissapointed. But 16v will still do better than both.
AE101 rally car- ??.?? @???km/h- quicker that Mirage Cyborg, Honda Civic, HSV Clubsport.

Tis true whilst you are moving but stop moving for a short amount of time and instant heat soak! I'm not going to say anything bout the geeks with standard 101's comment cos funnily enough i think you'd have a reasonably hard time keeping up with my 101! In fact i don't think you could keep up at all 8O

I've owned 2 silvertops and i can honestly say they are crap compared to blacktops. My engine has been lightly modified by the previous owner with the likes of new cams, air filter & exhaust and i dont have any problems with my lighter internals . In fact they make the engine rev better/freely in comparison to the dirty old silvertop. The guy i bought my car of had an ae101 as a rally car, he'd spent $20K on the engine and said his street ae111 was better.
And as for Mr G Tech man take your car to a drag proper drag strip and show me the real time, I guess we'll have to arrange a race then so i can beat you
