Before that was CANZ running under IASCA rules which were international not national.
Alot harder judging
Wiring
Fusing
Freq.
Static Freq
Sign Generation
Bass Distortion
Tweeter Testing
Headunit Output
Volume of space behind each sub
Volume of air in car
Angle of subs
Angle of tweater
Alternator Amperage
Have you checked to see if your fuse holder is less than 10 inchs from your battery do you have it mounted do you run grounded RCA's or not.
Now you try and win with those conditions
The loudest car in the world is not under IASCA - the format that is used for dB is DBDrags and Termlab and we view these as the loudest dB ratings in the world.
As for IASCA - they pulled out and as such, CANZE was run as a local competition for a year i believe, then OACICE came along and wasn't working out as planned, so we launched SQNZ because there was a need in the audio community for it.
Internationally: Europe runs EMMA, Australia runs CAASQ, we run SQNZ.
SQNZ is not a majorly bloated judging criteria (thank goodness) because then you'd be there for hours assessing a system - IASCA is a very thorough assessing system, but with peoples attention a lot shorter, there is a requirement to focus on what is important in an SQ competition: SOUND QUALITY. We still assess wiring, installation techniques and most importantly musicality of systems, but why would i want to judge things such as volume of space in enclosures and the car or the angle of speakers?? Thats your job to get the best sound from your system and car.
You haven't heard of SQNZ because we have basically just started up this year and are working to get more public exposure slowly and push into the retail sector. Christchurch looks like it will be hosting an event in late November at Pauls Audio
And also, SQNZ is picking specific retailers who support the community and want to support SQ. Plus i'm not prepared to let anyone handle SQNZ willy nilly. We have support from BASS in Auckland, SLAP! in Wellington and Pauls in Christchurch. Apart from starting off slowly, i'm not going to jepordise my hardwork and effort to let random stores take control of what i have worked towards - i will not let a full decentralisation of SQNZ happen!
If you really want more info, then feel free to ask and i'll provide judging criteria and scoring sheet.
And don't let Dan/Blackrazor upset you.. he has a habit of poking in uncomfortable places.
Cheers
Dave (the guy that has been writing the rules, judging criteria and doing many other things to push SQ in NZ
)
