Replacing Altezza Rear 6x9s

Postby MINTFX » Wed Nov 21, 2007 5:03 pm

Hey, My sister is wanting me to replace her 6x9s in the back of her '99 Toyota Altezza. I have tried to remove the rear tray but it is held down at each end. I've heard that you need to remove the rear seats but cannot find anywhere on how to do this. Any comments / tips would be great! Cheers

All the cars I've ever taken the rear seat out of have worked like this:

On the bottom, at the front of the part you sit on, on either side, there is a tab thing, pull that (when you see it, it should be fairly obvious which direction to pull, usually down, forward, or both). The seat should pop up at the front, if it doesn't, give it a bit of a tug upwards while pulling the tab. Once both sides are out, you can pull the seat bit forward and out of the car.

Is the seat one of those fold down ones or is it fixed back?

Fixed back type:
Look around the bottom of the back part of the seat, on either side, and in the middle, there are usually bolts holding it on, undo them, and then pull the seat upwards, there are hook things behind it which you need to lift it off before you can pull the seat forward.

Fold down type:
Pull up the knob things that release the catch, so you can fold the seat down, then, fold it down. Look around the bottom corners of the seat, should be a hinge there, unbolt the hinge on both sides, and voila, seat is undone.

Disclaimer: I've never taken the back seat out of an Altezza, this is just how it's been done on all the other cars I've owned/worked on in the past.

Yep, postfach is right on the removal of the fixed back seat (which is what the altezza has.

once thats out of the way, you have to pop off the panels off the c-pillar's to release the tray. then unplug the stop lamp and clear the seatbelts and it should come out.

the 6x9's in these are weird. the cone's are 6x9" but the mounting points are anything but. adaptor brackets could be needed depending on what you're trying to fit in
