which mag size for my Levin?

heres my problem, i'm looking at getting mags in about 6 months....don't know which size would suit me best tho.....

15" cheapest priced at about $1400
16" not as common so more expensive for tyres??
17" Bling!! but expensive priced at about $2000

these are my 3 options, all have the good sides and down sides..

my car: 96 black levin, stock height etc
current mags are stock looking painted black 14" mags

could you please post your ideas and vote in my poll so i have a bit of info as to which mags to go for, cheers

the mags i want: (available in 15-17")

Hey

IMO i think you should go for 16" because of weight, diameter & handling. ive heard frm alot of sources that 17" or bigger is only good if you've got customised suspension or if the car was released with 17" as factory option etc.

FWIW thats my 2c

id advise staying away from larger wheels like 17s on a smallish carlike a levin due to lack of practicality. i've got 17s on mine and would happily go back to 15s.

If ya drive on super smooth roads all the time then you can get away with 17s but in my opinion they aint worth the hassle

go with 15's they are lighter and you will accelerate quicker.

also cheaper tyres.

i had this delemma recently, after pricing wheels, and asking people with lower CC cars like integras etc, i decided to stick with my 15's for pracicality and better acceleration, apparently 17's on a levin are really noticable speed wise!

wow you guys have put a different spin on the idea i didn't think off....having to turn the bigger wheels takes more power kinda deal...

Are you planning to do any track work?
If you are, can you afford a set of 16" for track days? If not, then get the 16". You'll get the best of both worlds, an uprated wheel size with a potentially wider track, plus good acceleration and cornering characteristics.

If you're mostly a city driver, then 17" will be good, just be careful of high kerbs.

Are these wheels a lightweight alloy? ie. less than 10kg? For $2000 you should be able to get a set of TSWs or similar, inc. good tyres.

I got a set of 17" + Goodyear Eagle F1s for $2000.

17" look good. They look even better if the car has sideskirts and rear bumper extensions.

why would u bother paying 1400$ for 15"... 15s look so stock.
besides, you can get 17s for like $1200 2nd hand

id go with at least 16".
you should def. try to get multistud aswell, to make it more compatible for a car in the future etc.

17's all the way.
15's are too small.
16' tires are expensive.

Rolling diameter will be nearly the same as your car comes calibrated for 185/65/14's. Going to 205/40/17's will change your total diameter by ~ a couple of mm which it the equivlant to some wear on the tyre so there's no problems there. Your car will handle ALOT better too with some decent tyres :)

Look around for second hand mags, do you REALLY need new stilleto's? There are heaps of people selling second hand mags because they get bored of them after a couple of years and are in sweet condition.

If you want show , go for 17's
If you want go , get the 15's
If you want a bit of both get the 16's
PS: Stilletos are some of my favourite all time mag styles, however due to the center cap diameter staying roughly the same over each size model (ie: 15' - 17') they look their best at 17' and up since you get to see more of the fins and the center cap doesnt take up proportionatley as much of the mag.
And I must agree with earlier comments about bigger diameter wheels helping with handling, they do make a very noticeable difference. However acceleration and deceleration will also be noticeably affected. (if you upgraded power and brakes you car would be sweet tho.)
