How many k can ur 20v clutch cover b4 u need to change it?

Postby alastabesta » Wed Mar 10, 2004 8:48 am

The factory lasted me 10000k, now I've done about 5000k the clutch is about half gone already... is it just me or does all 20v clutches only last 10000k instead of 100000k that they say they do...?

All depends on the Driver and how often/much you slip the poor thing while revving(ie Launches/Prompt takeoffs, etc)

Factory clutch will easily go at least 50,000k's when driven normally.

My 20v has just done 150,000. I've had it for the last 15,000 and not a single problem.

Excessive dumping ro riding will f**k an OEM clutch, normal driving and the odd caneing won't.

10,000 is baaaaaaaad news dude. Maybe all that phenominal power the 20v puts out strips them :D

This isnt really on topic, just interesting
my old 84 corolla did just over 230 000km's when we replaced the ORIGINAL clutch, which was starting to touch the rivets

10 000km's is not good

Yeah my 24v has also done over 117K now and still on the stock clutch and it has mainly done urban driving, the release bearing is starting to get a little niosy at times but it doesn't slip.

try over 400,000 on the original. hadnt touched the rivets, pressure plate was giving up the goods, considering the flywheel had more glazing than a xmas ham

10000kms thats $&#$% terrible did u forget to push the 0 one more time cause if my cars clutch lasted 10000kms it would be straight back to the dealer for a refund was the clutch brand new for starters and was the replacement one new or 2nd hand
a brand new clutch doing 10000kms there is no way i would just buy another one thats crap and its a toyota

wait a minute are u a female?
you know why i ask

Hehe, my old 89 rolla 1.8 diesel wagon had over 400,000kms on the orginal clutch when sold, i used to give that thing a hard life as anyone who knows me could vouch for, just sold it and im guessing it cant be too far away from replacing!!

On my 20v i've done 142,000kms on the stock clutch (as far as im aware) and its just starting to need replacing now!!

Hey guys thx for the input
NO I'M NOT A FEMALE FFS@#$%@#$%@#$%
but yes, I do know why u ask...
and I don't race when take off if u know what I mean(clutch down, rev to 5000 and then release that sorta thing) but I do find that it takes another 0.2~0.3 seconds for my clutch to let go AFTER I stepped on the clutch

other than that I change gear at 4000, 3000, 3000, 3000 driving normally or 4000, 5500, 6000, 6000 when I wanna hear the melody my engine puts out(still, that wouldn't screw up the clutch THAT soon would it?)

oh forgot to add, the clutch was in place when I got the car(1st owner in nz) last year so its about 14 months old and its a '96 (got the feeling its the factory clutch). Installed a 30% upgrade clutch since last august and now its wearing off again... sh*t this is bad...

Dude, there is something seriously wrong if you only got 10,000 out of a 20v clutch.. replaced the clutch in mine when i did the gearbox.. 120,000 on the original toyota clutch, only replaced it cos the gearbox had to come out anyways. And the state of my clutch indicated that it had been abused.. the clutch centre was a bit buggered, and the little rubber dampers were mostly disintergrating from too many hard launches. but the actual friction surface still had another 50,000 of normal driving in her i reckon.

Well dude sounds like your not having a good time with clutches - i assume you let it bed in properly and everything?? Don't suppose you've tried bleeding the clutch system sometimes they can get air bubbles in them when you change clutches!
Anyhow i've done over 150000kms on the stock clutch and that is with drag racing, flat shifting and a bit of playing around at track days etc which for me involves a fair bit of engine braking from high rpms to help get the old girl settled down into corners :) is a 20 valve to not making major power about 92 wheel kilowatts
