(friends of a friend i dont know them really well)

so the weight does handicap them a bit

but some good engine mods would see them heaps faster

yeah sounds about right, I've seen the same with some of the supras once they're near the end of the strip they start gaining hard

Actually sounds a bit off to me. 4WD turbo vs FWD n/a...the celica should have it easily off the start i would of thought

Then of course let's not forget Celica's look much nicer than Evo's, WRX's etc etc.

IMO they look great & as someone mentioned on this topic that you see Evo's WRX's etc every where.

Cheers, Mark

they are pretty heavy - and a DC2 stripped with I/H/E is capable of doing 13s... the difference being that in the celica you can wind up the boost and do low 13s easy

Was that car stripped was it? That would make a little more sense then.

Lets hope a stripped st205 will get 12's...

Whats in focus here? the 205 or the 185? The ones i have seen with intake exhaust/ boost really dont do much in a straight line, one of the guys on here with a 205 GT4 managed a 13.9, at a low trapspeed running 19psi and a 4wd launch... And the 185 is even slower, there is examples with a few dudes on here when the N/a celica (3sge) has run down and passed the GT4...

I think it really depends what your mate wants, looks or show. Most the GT4's around wellington get beaten by vtec tegs etc at top end fairly happily.. They are just too heavy.

Ok, I think it's time I chimed in.

With just a VR4 front mount (~$750 for IC and piping), turbo back 2.5" exhaust (probably set you back ~$800), intake ($200 for filter + piping), and a rebuilt ct26 w/ t04e 50 trim compressor (approx. $900 depending on where you go), and about 14psi a ST185 can do easy mid 13's. If you ask me, less than $3K of mods on a $5K car to do mid 13's is pretty bloody good. To save any debate, that is all the engine mods my car had on the 16th of February when I ran a 13.4, so don't argue. 2 months later with the interior stripped and 16psi, I did a very easy 13.1, and with no further mods in a couple of weeks (whenever the next drags are that I can attend) I intend to show that an ST185 with the above mods and a stripped interior can do 12s. I'm sorry, but there are very few integras with simple bolt on mods that can do mid 13's, so any slightly modified GT4 that gets beaten by them, especially off the line, either has an absolutely terrible driver, or has been badly modified without and hasn't had any thought towards the issues that need to be addressed on a standard gt4 (ie, heat soaking intercooler, inefficient turbo, nasty squashed up exhaust etc)

As far as weight goes, yeah they are heavier than early evos, and sti's, but some people greatly overestimate the weight (like the dumb sh!ts who try to tell me my car weighs 1600kg+), and even without completely stripping the interior you can save a reasonable amount of weight by removing some luxuries such as air con and electronically adjustable seats.

Anyway, thats my point of view and it is taken from real world + strip proven experience, rather than hearsay and ridiculous street comparisons.

Even without a stripping you should get 12's with that new turbo, if not a decent dump pipe and aftermarket front pipe would enable you to :)

i thought st-205 gt4 do 13.8 1/4 mile standard thats what toyota says and i am guessing thats pretty fast . most likely the guy lost due to driver error or something. its easy to blame the car isnt it? my caldina gt-t seems to have crap take off most honda's have better starts but after the turbo's spools then its pretty good. but i agree it does have better top end speed compared to evo's and vr4's guessing they have closer gear ratio's

In the best motoring vids I have the ST205 consistantly cranks out 13.7-13.9 factory standard.

where as in my GT4 I can go right to about 130 in second before it cuts out

130 kph? Are you sure about that? As far as I'm aware the ST205 ratios are the same as the MR2 Turbo ones, except for first and I certainly wouldn't get more than 100 in 2nd.

Okay I stand corrected, I tried it this morning on my way to work and it went to 120 in second.. not bad considering the GT4 factory only goes to 100 like you said

that gt4 was me... and there were a few other factors to take into consideration : 4 bald tyres (and i mean BALD as in metal showing), slipping clutch, and 2 passengers. and no it wasnt 19psi it was 18psi :P with only other mod the air intake... so now tell me how slow i am with those mods and those conditions and i'll shut up.

oh and r32 gt didnt u run a 16 second pass at masterton>? that MUST mean your car is slow! i guess now u might not be to quick to judge other cars by 1 single run they make?
