3S-FT Corona Whistling under Load

Postby Corona » Fri Apr 02, 2004 10:49 pm

Like the title sujests, my engine is "whistling" when I get the revs up, about ~3500rpm+ under load, Its not the turbo, as I dont have one. If I am in nutural & ref no noise. I know the air cleaner needs replacement & I am going to give it a iol & filter change next weekend when I have time.

The only thing that I can think of is a perished vacuum hose, but wouldent is whistle when in nutural??

Well Checked, No Curry
I took the Air cleaner out for a short while, but still the same. I will have a look in the weekend when I get some time to see if there is a leaking hose.

I know it might sound silly, but is your stereo turned on when this happens? Tried turning it off?

Sometimes feedback coming through the stereo makes a whistling noise that rises and falls with the revs ... have had this in two cars now.

try turning the air-con on and off and see if it effects the sound. My old 4S-Fi corona had a stuffed bearing in the aircon compressor and it used to make a hell of a noise.

Its not an Altinator wine, I am begining to think that ether the alternator berrings, or the A/C berrings are starting to go, but taking the drive belt off & feeling the drive shafts of wach unit, they seem fine.

I'll take it into Albany Toyota when I am next passing to see if they know what it might be
