yeap another FM901 fan, but if you have camber and/or toe then they wont last, mine are scrubing away slowly, they aren't that bad but they are noticibly less long lasting than pretty much all the others, they do however give good grip, the sidewalls dont hardly flex and they are very controllable up to and past the limit

definitly stay away from cheapies, there is a reason they are cheap and they aren't worth even buying as if you like to push your car you will hate them and end up going to something decent anyway, however my mums civic did have some hankooks sport rubber (ventus HRII's) on it, although it didn't last it was almost exactly the same as FM901's (yeah it didn't last, it was the same) i dont know how much they cost tho, they came with the car but i would imagine hankooks wouldn't cost the earth so if your really poor it might be worth it to give them a stab

Postby DOHMAN » Sat Apr 10, 2004 5:10 pm

I got a set of federals on my AE111 and they are awsome even though they are only on 15's the dunlop fm901s are a good tyre but they do wear out pretty quick bridgestones dont seem to be as popular as they used to be.

Well my 2 cents read something like this - for superior performance cornering and in a straight line get michellin raptors i think they are which are curently residing on the front of my car only in the dry tho - for durability get nankang ns1's which i had for about 1 year (btw all tyre types ar eon the front as rear hardly wears at all ie i've had current set of ns1's pn the rear for close on 3 years now and only just need replacing) but weren't to flash for grip in either wet or dry! For all round performance ie grip and wear i'd go with the fm901's - these are quite noisy but last a decent amount of km's and have the most grip i have encountered in the wet and are only slightly down on the raptors in the dry (read 2.1 60 foot times compared with 2.05 for the michellins)!

So all in all my rated tyres from best grip to worst funnily enough reads worst durability to best (for dry weather performance) is

Michellin Raptors
Dunlop FM901's
Nankang ns1's

But the 901's were best in the wet

Sorry i can't really help you on the cheaper brands as i don't normally deviate from these 3 tyres

Another fan of the FM901's here, Great all round tire, seemed better than the bridgestone grid II's i had on before, havent had a chance to really test them as of yet but on road performance is exceptional, theres only 1 drawback i can find so far which is the road noise,
However these are being faded out and replaced with the DZ101's which are supposed to be very similar in performance except they are apparently quieter!

I also use the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's on my car.
I run an AWD Subaru Impreza, and after a year's worth of running, I have dead even wear (didn't even need to rotate the tyres!). So good alignment helps too.

But I've done a lot of wet and dry driving, long and short, and found them to be a great tire for my needs. Haven't done any track work, but I know a GTB driver who's done his wagon around Manfield and Taupo, and his tires held up pretty well (he's not too wild behind the wheel though).

They do tramline a little, I think because of the aggressive tread pattern, and I would be a bit hesitant to use them on snow/deep gravel/sand...

Bridgie G Grid III's, cant go past them for value for money, aren't overly cheap but well worth the spend and a lot cheaper than some other big name brands. You get what you pay for, federals been there done that wouldn't again, if you want a cheapie that seems to work for the money try GT Radial's.

i'm using barum could be worth a try, they do, do 17''s but not sure on the price got them on my levin now really grippy and good in the wet $90 for 14's so i'd say around $160-200 for 17's
