bushes.... wheel hop?

Postby eddiewould » Sat Apr 10, 2004 10:40 pm

Which bushes prevent wheel hop when car is cornering on a bumpy surface?

Car is SSii Toyota Celica
- Tyres are brand new, fresh alignment.

Cheers

suspension

Shock absorbers most likely
Is it superstrut type suspension as the short link between strut and bottom arm get play in them

What is the name of this link? How expensive is it to fix if it IS the problem?

Also my steering wheel isn't centered (even after alignment) ... could this be part of the problem? or does it give any clues?

sounds like a bad alignment, urathane (nolathane, whiteline etc ...) bushes will go some way to reduce wheel hop, but i wouldn't expect that car to have such serious issues, and yeah i was about to say shocks as well

i bet you got a tyre shop alignment? take your car to a suspension specialist that you can trust if you know someone who races then ask them who they get to setup their cars, i know quite a bit about suspension but i know enough that i dont stand a chance when it comes to getting the alignment anywhere near right, and tyre shops aren't worth going to cos they wont do the job right

just a side note but to do my S13 it took 3 hours and cost only $90 at emmerson wheel alignment (local alignment wizard, seems everyone i know who knows anything only go there) and the before and after alignment settings speak for themselves, i had previously had an alignment done on my old mazda at firestone direct, it took just over half an hour and cost $50 and the results would be what you would expect

hi there,

this is also about my superstrut levin, just got it lowered and i was told to replace the shocks on the front as they are stuffed, nways, when cornering or slowing down, there is a sound coming from the front, kind of like a very soft piece of rubber hitting another object (sound is like "bog bog bog bog bog", :) ). Its not that the tyres are rubbing. Would that be the shocks or the superstrut? also there is squeeking sounds coming from the front as well when going on bumps or small potholes? are those the shocks? thanks alot.

Okay. Front shocks are sweet, rear shocks are okay but not as good (but not needing replacement) - according to shock shop porirua. However the rear sway bushes are in need for replacement - but proabaly are not causing the problem.

Tried my mates wheels + tyres on my car (15" rims with Dunlops allround). Car drives 100x better now. I haven't swapped back yet...

But what should I do? My wheels are 16"s but have lower profile tyres on so they have same rolling radius as my mates. My front tyres are brand new and seem sweet... but my rear tyres are two different brands and both are cracked due to sun hardening... so possibly due for replacement ... also the rears are different width to the fronts. If I buy another 2 new tyres for the rear wheels (exact same as what I have on my fronts) is this likely to make the problem go away? or is it simply due to 16" wheels with lowpro's having less 'give' then 15" wheels with standard sidewall tyres?

thoughts please people =D
