put all the bolts you take out into labeled bags makes it a damned site easier when the time comes to put it back together

Motor

Also remove bonnet (obviously) and label all your wires and what they go to, remove the long half shaft bracket off block, undo all engine mounts, drain coolant and move accelerator cable etc out of the way and ensure all vacuum lines are removed before the motor comes out.

If you're doing it for the first time then get an exercise book and right down pretty much everything you did. Draw diagrams etc to help. It'll be all filthy and covered in oil and shit at the end but will simplify installing new motor.

If your not that sure just get a didgital camera and take pics of the engine at different stages of taking everything off the motor ie. vacuum hoses gear linkages wiring loom then you'll have somthing to look at if you cant remeber how it was..

Just a thought

I am half way thru converting my FX from auto to manual.... today i pulled the motor/box out, in all honesty, most plugs, sensors pipes etc are fairly logical and can only go one way ie it is fairly obvious what fits where!!! the old bluetop looms are a fair bit simpler than the newer ones, take it slow and careful and you'll be right!

Everything is logical but when you just pull it out and dont spend the small bit of time labeling the bits then go to put it back together it becomes more of a mission 8O

Fly wheel and clutch are easy to line up use the end of a screw driver to centre the clutch...

if it looks right tension it down and your away

Have you bought the new engine yet?
If you have replace everthing you can while the motors out of the car

*Timing belt
*water Pump
etc etc
