Clutch and Flywheel torue settings for AE92

Postby Pnut » Fri Apr 16, 2004 8:46 pm

Hi all,

Going to help someone change the clutch in their levin (AE92), i have tried a search but i can't find much on the Torque settings for the clutch and flywheel.

Can anyone please help?? :)

Also, are there any online or downloadable manuals available?

Cheers

If you had the flywheel off (4AGE 16 valve) there are eight bolts to be torqued up to 54 ft-lb (74 Nm) in two or three passes using a diagonal cross-over sequence. This means go to say 25 Nm in the first pass, 50 on the second and 74 on the third. If you consider the bolts to be arranged on a clock face, tighten in the sequence 12 oclock, 6, 3, 9, 2, 7, 4, 10. Use the same sequence on each pass.... sweet :)

Sorry, don't have any specs for the clutch cover plate.

I am pretty sure it is the 4AGE engine (it is 1600 DOHC inj), i didn't get a chance to look under the bonnet last night to see the exact codes sorry.

jondee86 - Thanks for the Flywheel settings 8)

anyone know the clutch ones please? :|

I did mine up to 20ft'lbs, and used a threadlocking compound...

most mechanics wouldn't waste time torquing up flywheel bolts. just do up the bolts in a star pattern. do clutch cover bolts a wee bit at a time to load up the fingers evenly. if it's ur f1st clutch job hen maybe keep trying to find torque settings so u can get a feel for it.
meh.....

Hmm, perhaps 10-12th i have done, first on a toyota though. But i have also seen on others cars the consequences of not torqueing them up enough (on a toyota ironically), and too much stripping threads, none were at my doing of course. I am a mechanical engineer by trade and would say i normally would have pretty good "feel" for most bolts, but to me it is not worth the risk when it comes to rotating masses like flywheels and the likes. No doubt we have all seen the aftermath of a flywheel letting loose, i would rather err on the side of caution

im a mechanic and flywheels should be torqued.
f.t does not suffice neither does impact gun tight,
i always torque them, its not worth the risk if u dont.
