fuelling for a turbo setup

Postby rxtoy » Tue Apr 27, 2004 10:16 pm

i'm dropping a turbo engine into one of my projects (EX lancer, SOHC 4G63T for anyone interested) and i'm pretty sure i need to do something about the fuelling situation, i know i need at least a high pressure fuel pump (and yes, i'm considering your one EP71_4AGE) but do i NEED a surge tank and a lift pump or is this something for down the track when i'm starting to make a couple more horsepower???

and if i do NEED one then can someone draw me a basic picture of how it should be setup? like which pump goes where and return lines and all that other stuff that i'm not that sure about?

cheers
Matt

email diagram to str_ng_r@hotmail.com if you can't put it up on the site, that is of course if anybody can be bothered :D

If you run from the regulator back to the tank the EFI pump may have mpre flow than the other pump and the surge tank will keep running out so it has to be done as per the diagram.

out of interest how do fuel pressure regulators work? is it pretty much the same as a blow off valve, ie: the fuel pressure builds up in the manifold till it reaches a certain point where it relieves back to tank (or surge tank)

cheers

Kind of.

Fuel pressure builds up ib the fuel rail to about 40psi or whatever the spring pressure is,
and by applying vacuum or boost to it you can vary it up or down by a small amount.
