Are 20v's generally noisey engines at idle? I have heard quite a few people say they are....

yes, no sound deadening under bonnet and they are a mechanically noisey motor at idle (vvt pulley is on of the main sources)

yes rattle rattle, apparently there is a cork type seal thingy under the cam belt cover, and when the belt is replaced people dont bother replacing the seal or something, so that adds to the noise, they are hell noisy with no exhaust on hehe

Ahh, cool, have been wondering about that for a bit. I've been wondering whether my belts are on the way out for a while now; I can always hear them at idle.

Silvertops can also have a noisy cambelt tensioner - they redesigned them on the blacktops. VVT pulley is probably the most common source of rattle and is most noticeable when hot.

I've got sound deadening under my bonnet - maybe AE111s do and AE101s don't?

I/ve had mine all replaced and I can still hear them as well as other noises. I have come to the conclusion that there is nothing wrong with my engine as its just as noisy as any other 20v :D

Plus my compression is the same on all cylinders and only one cylinder has a variance of 3psi.

- i have 5W 30 oil in my blacktop maybe that brings out a few more noises cos its a thinner oil?
