I own a 94 toyota levin ae101 4afe 16v and im putting on a sports air filter and pipe and was wondering on the factory pipe that goes to the box theres this black box that comes off the pipe that sits at the back its a small box kinda shaped like and L is that needed or can I just take the hole thing off and put my new air filter and pipe on?
And also to sound more dumb! but hey im young and learning! that blue pipe I got with my new air filter that comes off the pipe wheres that go if it goes anywhere or do I just block it up with something because I had a look at where most cars that have it goes and I aint got anywhere for it to go? Ok and one more thing lol On the factory filter box there is this little temperture like rubber thing that is in the filter box and has 2 wires coming from it whats that? do i still need that? anywayz thanks!
for your sensor, drill a hole further up the inlet pipe, like before the filter. and put it in there I think this is a AIT (air intake sensor). Otherwise, get someone who knows what there doing for everything else. Dont just rip shit n bust.
AE101 4afe might MAP sensored... therefore:
The little box could be the intake resonator. The car will still run if you don't use it with your new intake.
The sensor with the wires will be your intake air temp sensor. Your car will run better if it is plugged in somewhere so it can get the temp of the airgoing into your engine.
the little box just before the throttle body, is a resonator, thats all. if you can, just get a new pipe right off the throttle body, and run it to where you want the filter, and away you go. strongly recommend fitting the sensor back into the pipe somewhere though, as this picks up the temp of the air entering the engine, and when the air is colder, it's more dense, so more oxygen, so the ecu needs to know the different air temps, otherwise it doesn't get the mix quite right. not harmful, but still runs better with this sensor working.
(finally, someone else with a fe 101!!)
