Yes.... that sole FWD (so far) vote is me...

But a lot of people that pan FWD's mercilessly have never had the opportunity to step inside a well set up one and go for a thrash. The majority of Japanese FWD's are not sorted chassis wise... they are understeery horrible things that struggle to get mid-corner traction... (OK so the traction issue is a feature of any high power FWD)

Not to be blowing my own trumpet here or anything, but IMO the Europeans have the idea of a well handling FWD down pat... the Sud is a perfect example of this, you can throw it through corners with complete confidence, understeer is only present at the EXTREME limit, and it's more likely to oversteer when you lift off, such is the neutral bias of the chassis. As such, I am yet to drive another car that is so fun (and involving) through a set of corners, even the RWD cars I have driven (from Falcodores, to Alfas, to Nissans, to Escorts.... all sorts) haven't provided as much driving satisfaction as the wee Sud.

Any doubters and I'm happy to take you for a ride over the Port Hills.

IMO people are overrating a car because of its ability to drift or do skids, rather than the actual driving experience.

But what I'm really trying to say is I guess, there's good and bad of both types of cars.... would you say an BA Falcon gives the "feel of a sports car" when compared to say, an Integra Type R?

this doesn't come down to sliding or burnouts (or what ever excuses the munters would use to settle this) but ....
I would choose an S2000 over a civic or teggy Type R
I would choose a merc (low ranking, all things being equal) against a Saab or alfa
I would choose a ford sierra over a holden camira (if i ever got that poor)
don't ask my reasons but i just prefer driving rear wheelers

I like rwd, mainly cos the ones i have owned have actually handled mint (alfa romeo and my current mr2) compared to my ae80 rolla

but as Richard pointed out there are good handling fwds, the only one that would surpass the Sud is the Peugoet 205 GTi

Wet traction does piss me off in a FWD though I must admit...

I prefer AWD for everyday driving, I know i've only just got my learners, but i've delivered a few cars, because my dad owns a car delearship, and i've driven both AWD and RWD, and I prefer AWD.
But for track days, i'd prefer to have an RWD, so I could drift it.

slight dilema. i have both. daily driver is fwd, and race car is rwd for normal driving i don't mind fwds, if not prefer them, but for race, i just like the different feel that a rwd has.

for everyday driving and driving on the limit (as in driving on twisty hilly roads)... FWD
for having fun... RWD

ive owned both, the civic was a lot easier to drive "fast" as it was prone to understeer which suits me because i rate my self as a driver, but im no where near "awsome"

my current car - s14 silvia Ks - is a bitch to drive everyday - if u point it at a gap and squirt in traffic in the wet, u gotta be brave ! i would also never push it to its limits on a twisty road.

for driving like a knob, the silvia is a lot more fun tho, as oversteer is allways giving me a smile, were understeer is... well not smile inducing

my prefrence is RWD for the feel and balance, i am really picky with the way a car handles, but i have driven some FWD that have been set up really well.

Rear wheel drive all the way My first car was a old school toyota Starlet rwd also my current car is one to mr2.Love them I guess

RWD for me (though thats only coz you won't let us vote 4WD ) I used to have a BMW and just loved the way you could hang the ass out on corners and roundabouts In general I just prefer the way the car behaves when it's RWD and also you don't get torque steer which is a real pain in any high power FWD car
