Changing box in MKIII

Postby Silent Knight » Mon May 31, 2004 9:11 am

I've spent all weekend with help from numerious people trying to change my Gearbox and torque converter over. The motor is a 1G-GTEU with Standard Auto box.

We've changed it all around but the box will for some strange reason not bolt on. I can fit two bolts at the bottom of the bellhousing but at the top there is a huge gap wich we can't close.

Does anyone have any ideas on this please don't be shy i'm ready to try anything to get my baby goin again ASAP.

Thanks

Hanré

are the lugs getting in the way?- just make sure you put it on straight as an then put bolts in. If it is the lugs you could always cut them off...real bad practice, but I know afew guys at toyota who have done the same when fitting boxes...

be VERY careful with this. we had the same problem when doing my one, figured it was just tight, so tightened the bolts until there was no gap. car then had a vibration from then on, at first we thought it was the T/C filling up with oil again. it wasn't. dropped the trans and t/c and found that the central locator lug on the t/c that fits into the flexplate had not lined up right, so when we bolted it together, it bent it, and caused the vibration. when reinstalling everything, it must go on straight and should have no problems whatsoever. if it does have problems going on, then somethings wrong. 10k_20v has had some practice with mk3 gearboxs now :p as him for a bit more advice on the matter.

the thing is that the TC lines up against the flexi all gud no probs but the top of the bellhousing is too far away to actually get a bolt through it. at the bottome it lines up perfectly it's just at the top where the gap is too wide.

i'll pull tranny out again tonight and see if it lines up any better.

Dosn't the manual have longer bolts than the auto? Did you get these?

it is an auto and since i pulled the auto box off of it the bolts should go straight in the way they were before.

w00t well we've finally manage to sort the bitch out :D :D :D

was crawling under the bloody supra for 3 days and nights non stop trying to figure out why the bellhousing would not line at the top.

just so happens that TOYWGN started playing with the TC in the box after I pulle it out for about the 6th time and it clicked in. When I put it on it looked lined up but there was actually a third set of splines that needed to match in for the bellhousing to fit on top.

chur chur to MrOizo, BADTOY, POD and TOYWGN for all the help on this
