This said it can be set up to run a wasted spart setup right - but thats less than desirable from what ive been told.... Does the type of ignition timing sensor (in this casee hall) affect your choice of ECU also? what type of ECU's can run at least 4 coils? Particularly those at the cheaper end of the scale...?

Yes coil on plug = direct fire = DFI. Wasted spark is OK, probably as good as individually firing 4 coils to all intents and purposes. However, I doubt anything less than a MoTeC would be able to interface with the standard crank angle and cam position sensors. A cheap ECU is false economy for this application anyway, IMO.

link plus can indeed run the 4 coils - but I wouldnt have the first clue about crank angle and cam position sensors.... do these engines have a unique setup do they? im still pretty much int eh dark about aftermarket ecu's and which would be suitable for use with the standard sensors..... suggestions welcome!

have a look here:

http://www.link-electro.co.nz/home.html

i havnt had first hand experience of them but all the horror stories iv heard have turned out to be tunning or installing errors.
i think they can use std sensors but best to check with them on that!

Does anyone know approx. how much hp it will produce from a Gen IV 3SGTE engine (ST215W) under 1.0bar?

What intercooler, what turbo and what ecu?
quite a few variables but putting your car on a dyno would give you a certain figure but "approx" 300Hp is a good guess with exhaust mods.

Also, can amyone tell me which turbo does ST215W used?
CT20B or CT26? Steel turbine or Ceramic?
Whcih one is better? and What are the differences between CT26 and CT20B?
Sorry for all these stupid questions...but I really want to know. :)
Cheers for that

motec m800

Postby Celica RA45 » Mon May 31, 2004 1:23 am

im running a motec m800 on the altezza engine and the magnetic sensors that it has crank and cam shaft work fine can run all the std sensors bar the knock sensors and you can define them easy with the volts in the ref and sync modes

The ST215W uses a ceramic CT20b. These spool pretty quickly but cannot handle as much boost as a steel shaft turbo. I believe some ST205 CT20b's are steel and some ST185 CT26's are steel - the rest are all ceramic. If you are running no more than 1 bar then you wont be in much danger of destroying the ceramic CT20b that came in your wagon :-)

Only the WRC spec ST205 ct20b had a steel shaft. ST185 RC's had the steel shaft ct26.

CT20b is better IMO than a ct26...even a steel wheeled ct26, the exhaust side of the ct26 is too poxy and small to make any decent power, only thing ct26 is good for is sub 4000rpm torque.

There are a few argument related to CT20B and CT26 Turbo
Very interesting and very confusing as well.
Not sure who is correct.

Have a look...

with reguard to that link, that guys is correct. sorta. there is no reference to the ct20b in parts books epc or toyota tech books etc etc. but they do exsist! just like gear boxes, to toyota epcs w55 etc etc means nothing!

i was under the impression there is a ct20 (dunno what that fits, maybe surfs?) ct20b and the ct26. iv been told that the ct20b is a hybrid of the ct20 and ct26

Stock vs stock a CT20b is better than a CT26 but the CT26 has the larger turbine of the two and the CT20b having the larger compressor.
Hyrbid the CT26 with a T04E and you will have a superior turbo to that of the CT20b in regards to horsepower but the CT20b has less lag

Then why do they only make 288whp when the CT20B has been known to make 319whp see http://www.turboforum.net/dyno/ for details. The closest modified CT26 (Actually a complete recast of the housing to mate it to a GT35R compressor) was 304HP

For a more authoritive answer on the "Does the CT20B exist" lets consult TTE http://www.tte.de/st205.html , they call it a "Toyotas Manufactured CT20 Twin Entry". So Toysport can once again go and sulk in their corner mumbling 503E, 503E, 503E....

Identical modifications? Identical boost pressure?
One member here installed a CT26/T04E onto his ST205 after his CT20b failed and said it was considerably quicker on 15 psi than that of the CT20b on 18psi
No other mods were done before or after installing the new turbo.
