Any Info On 2etelu 3etelu transplants or compatibility

Postby colberg » Thu May 27, 2004 9:46 pm

I own a toyota starlet ep71. It came with a 2etelu 1.275l soc 12v turbo.
This motor puts out 82.5 kw Standard. However after crunching my First Gear Synchronisers i found a 3etelu. I Know this motor was a limited edition motor plased in the starlet turbo sp. It is the same layout and identical in appearence but a little taller with 1.5L capacity. I placed this motor and it's gearbox in my starlet but can't get the beast to run Wright.
It is using the 2etelu computer, distributor, and turbo with bigger injectors to make up the difference in capacity.(this is how I was told it should run.

At first the car started perfect first crank over after a load was put on the motor (ie reving it) , the throttle position sensor and Knock censor codes came up. when driven, the car ran alright it was a little rough and was having trouble holding a smooth boost limit. it got worse as the car would warm up. Now I can't start the car without it missing at iddle Forget trying to drive down the road. if anyone Knows any information on either of these motors or their compatibility together. :?
turbos suck, supercharges blow,N/A is the way to go!

Ok Just a few things, If your 1st gear snyco gave up the go, why did you change the whole motor and not just the gearbox? The 3E-TELU is not out of a starlet it came outa a Tercel or something like that. What sort of injectors are you running? are the the ones for the motor, because if they are to large they may make it run like a dog (like putting 4agze injectors into a 2etelu)

2etelu

The Gearbox was offered to me for one hundred dollars. The gearbox was from the 1,500cc turbo. I was informed this motor and box was pulled out of a starlet called a turbo sp. This was done so the turbo and injection could be put on a mini Race car. he sold me the motor with the box then offered to swap the injectors for the ones out of my 1,300cc if I wanted to put the motor in my car. Then my greed for more power took control.
PS I had no money to repair the box so I thought this was a good idea

car is going to tuning shop for a couple of hours tomorrow. if this does not result well I will put the 2etelu back in hooked up to the 1.5L gearbox, I also have a front mount ready to install.

My suggestion would be switch back to the old injectors, your ecu will be pumping too much in with each pulse.

You should only change injectors when you have a way of compensating for the higher capacity, ie SAFC, etc.

Have got the car back From the shop. the mechanic was the same guy I bought the motor off. he checked it out and found it was running rich you were both Wright. however he swapped the computer and every thing is now running great, it is still running a little rough down low when cold. however when she is warm she doesn,t run bad at all. I Have found that the car runns better from three thousand rpm ie up high where I found the oyher motor ran better dow lower rpm. Also the car still comes up with check light and code 52. Both TPS and KNOCK sensor systems have been cheecked out and can't be foultered. any Ideas on what this code refurs to would be great. thanks for the advise you guys its really apreciated. I will keep you posted as to my progress.
