3t turboz

Postby Sicktoy » Sat May 22, 2004 7:13 pm

hey dude...the best turbo to use would be a .63a/r exhaust housing with a t3/t4 turbo setup .. the skyline turbos seem to lack the air above 5500rpm as in feels like theres no power at all! :)
not too good .. the t3-4(to4b) that i have starts boosting from under 2000rpm and hits full boost by bout 2500-3000rpm . i have more than enough air for bout 20psi . are currently upgrading again as i require a bit more air again!
diffs..hmmmmm what car?? IRS or SOLID AXLE??

The car is a 82 TA63 Carina GT-T not sure wether its ISR or fixed but i have a feeling that its similar to an AE86 rear as the use very similar strut set ups

It will be IRS, have a look under the back of the car where it will be pretty obvious. Most likely to be an F292 (check your chassis plate) which is very different and a lot stronger than the AE86 diff. MA61 is the best source of LSD if you can find one, or they can be purchased new.

ta63 with 3tgte sometimes have the F series irs lsd too.

umm im confused... sicktoy a t25 has a .49a/r turbine (i got one to prove) and t28 are usually .64a/r aren't they.. so a t3 with .43 exhaust? typo maybe?
zoom mag did a comparison on the nissan/garrett turbo's

heh heh
going on other peoples comments and conversions a garrett t3 size turbo seems the go
im just gonna put a t25 on to start with just to replace the std ct20 coz it chews through the oil... i burn off 2ltrs of oil in a week driving from auckland- palmerston and back then to taupo the next weekend and it was off the dipstick! the t25 i have is off a rb20et r31 passage gt skyline. not the best of replacements but should flow enough to keep me going. don't want to have heaps of boost to start with anyways

Kool thanks again. Other recomendations ive had have been the T28, CT26(single entry) or the turbo off a Caldina GT-T (unsure wat this is). R any of these turbos able to be bolted straight on (my guess is no) if not then wat mods will i be looking at making to have it fit?

i don't know of any direct replacements for the ct20.
usually an adapter plate is made to mate the std exhaust manifold to an upgraded turbo. yeah all of those should be a good choice too for responsive turbo and a mild boost increase since they're originally from 2ltr engines

The single entry CT26 from the 7M-GTE is the nearest "bolt-on" fit. Just need to slot the mounting holes in the turbo flange and it bolts on. However, you then need to get the core rotated so the oil drains properly and make a new drain pipe. Fairly straight forward though, assuming you can find a turbo in good condition.

Yea i thought the CT26 wud be the obvious choice to only prob is finding one in they're near impossible to find in any sort of decent working order. So i thought the next best option could be the T28 as is easy to find and very reliable
