Old tvis 4age motors...

Postby Pies » Thu Jun 17, 2004 6:37 pm

can someone tell me the differences between the blue top tvis 4age and the red/black top tvis 4age? and are the ECU's and loom's compatible?

Red/black top has stronger bottom end internals compared to the blue top, and yes the looms and ecu's are interchangable although the plug-in adapters will need to be changed.

the best ecu would have to be the one from corona"s with the 4age (type 41 ?)

red/black top have better crank and heavier block, looms and ecu's are not entirely interchangable, ie use must use 1 or the other full system, they run different injectors sizes and ignitors etc, the ecu badidass is talking bout is type 61, last 2 digits on the label, and is bluetop system

Possibly the easiest way to tell the difference (other than the covers, which isn't always reliable) is the ribs on the block. The bluetop has 3 ribs and the redtop bigport or the red and blacktop has seven. Redtop bigport internals are stronger... however if you can, and your after the best of the NA world develop a smallport. Its a better engine than a developed 20 valve. For compressed applications I'd be heading blacktop 20 valve, but I don't like compressors!!

so id be better off sticking with the blue top ecu and loom and it would all be sweet? whats the difference between injectors?? resistance? or does one set pump more gas?

late bluetop 4ages can have the same rods as the tvis redtops... cranks changes in the 7th month 87.

best to stick to ya std injectors and loom unless youv done the cams etc, redtop non tvis injectors have different plugs and are apparantly higher flow.

Can you confirm this? Do you know exactly how much more? Or is it just because of the fuel pressure reg being of a higher pressure?

Decided to not be lazy, researched it myself from www.club4ag.com...

4A-GEU AE86 (84-85) 182cc 1 Ohm
Fuel Pressure Regulator 2.55kg/cm2

4A-GELU AE92 (88-89) 182cc 2 Ohm
Fuel Pressure Regulator 2.55kg/cm2

So it seems to be just higher impedance not flow. Annoying, because I have some and wish they were higher flow.

wooohoooo .. go 2.9bar reg .. shizzle nizzle
Get a bluetop
Red Black Top/Late model bluetop / TVIS REDTOP what ever you wanna call it just has larger crank and rods .. pistons same as bluetop but will have different part number as they fit a 20mm gudgeon. The TVIS redtop ecu has same plugs as early bluetops and will run an early engine with std loom and injectors .. but it will run bad and go lean.
Bluetop is the best 4age for any application
