SUPERCHARGER intercooler

i got a ae101 GTZ with oversized crank pulley, full exhaust.
i thought of changind the intercooler.
but it seems like no one's done it on Superchargers
people tned to change the intercooller only when they turbo it...
why is that?
wouldn't it be better if i get a bigger intercooler but not massive?
like...vR4 intercoolers?

i think its because super charger cant copress air into a larger space because its belt driven it cant spin any fast but i think with a turbo because its controlled by a waste gate its jst opens later with turbo spinning faster so it can handle compressing the air in a bigger space because its has a sort of varible controling how much air the turbo is pumping where a supa charger is on a belt and cant go any fasted to make up for the extra volum it has to pump into. if that makes any sence? well thats wat i thort would be the case in my head weather thats rite or not?

errrrrm, not really, the big bonus oboot the supercharger is it is instant boost, and if you added all the extra plumbing for a front mount or the like, they kinda loose that one edge that makes them viable in the first place, ya might as well have a turbo

one more thing, someone was looking for a check valve for a turbo/super combo, I may have just the thing. pm me.

but i think it will make difference in performance with bigger intercooler.
but people just dont do it on superchargers....why?

Cause they drive like a pig with all that piping.
The intercooler forms part of the inlet manifold because it is after the throttle body.
This means when you are accelarating hard and then you lift your foot off the engine will not slow down untill it sux all the air out of the intercooler and piping. It's like having a sticking throttle.

"Drive like a pig" is a huge generalisation... driven a 1993 Jag XJ6? Those are pigs.

My 101 GZE with upsized crank and 200mm x 500mm (ish) front mount IC does not qualify for pig status, sure the "engine braking" effect isn't instant when you lift off, but it's only a fraction of a second delay.

Think of it as a good investment - when the GZE boost is blowing your hair back anymore at least the plumbing is in place for the turbo upgrade.

Depens on the size and lenghts of pipe.
The few that i've driven with a FMIC have had big long ugly pipes.

After being in a standard levin with i/e and standard boost, and in another one with a front mount, i/h/e 7psi, there is a hiuge difference, especially in power from down low till 6500rpm, where as the other one drops off at 5500 ish

my ae86 with map ae92 gze uses 2 mitsi gsr cores welded together front mounted with 2.5 inch piping, good enough for 13.7 1/4 mile with standard pulley, throttle does hang on longer than conventional manifold and t/b setup, but not horrific by any means, next mod is to mount t/b on manifold ( custom plenium style, standy gze intake is :x ) i wouldnt reconmend 2.5inch pipng on fwd setup. as due to the length would be laggy and hang on like a bogga at a job interview :P and look al you disbelievers http://www.garagedori.com/tech/4agze_gzecu.php power all the way to the redline :P :P which is 7500rpm not 5500 as some believe

but the do ! its just not as common because there is alot less supercharged cars on the road, im running a big intercooler on my supercharged 323 hatch

A friend of mine has front mounted a SW20 MR2 cooler on his GTZ wagon, forget the BS comments about it harming performance etc if they have changed coolers and seen a decrease in performance then it obviously was done incorrectly and with little thought! Since a MR2 turbo puts out standard between 230~280Hp and the cooler can cope with this fine then they are an obvious choice for a ZE at a fraction of the price of an aftermarket jobbie. My friend had it fitted and piping etc made by Niteparts.

IMO the reason people don't seem to put FMIC's on SC GTZ's is because most SC GTZ drivers do not seem to modify their cars beyond exhaust and filter and the task of FM's may seem a huge expense for the actual gain but hey every HP counts and it will definitely give you some benefit
