HELP 2Tg-eu bolting to a K series G'box?

Postby tantrum540 » Mon Jun 21, 2004 6:16 pm

Does anyone know if I can bolt a 2Tg-eu engine to the gearbox in my car? It is a k series box currntly bolted to a 4K engine.

If I can it will mean I only have to pay to get the engine mounts modified yay... if I cant :o(

Any help/ advice or information as to where I can find this out will be appreciated.

you need a t50 gearbox with a t series bell housing, mount t series engine mounts onto your x member at the end of the day id just drop a 4age in or a 3tgte

A 2T GEU would be a big improvment on the 4K and you'll have to splice in the injection loom unless you're planning on running it with carbs. check out http://www.toycrazy.net and see what Mark did to his drifter it's pretty much what you wanna do and instead of me quoting it all here and getting it wrong you should just check it out yourself.
The out of order of EFI it seems, don't you think? is, condition changes, whether which kind of, but don't you think? after removing the screw of the throttle?

i've got a friend with the bellhousing and a T40 sitting in his garage, its only a 4 speed but (the guy who sold it said this but i can't prove it, we've never had it in a car) its meant to be a trd box with some good ratio's. also i'm wiring up a 2TGTEU into my celica so if you need a hand with the wiring you can copy mine, that is if you're in auckland of course :)

and info on what sort of car it's going into would help, most of the post ke2*'s came out with a 2T so there should be mounts available.

cheers
Matt

oh yeah, $200 for the box and bellhousing, 20 spline output, think that's the same as your K series output shaft but not dead sure??? anybody know???

Hmm, thats pretty random to 'TRD' spec a 4 speed. If you can proove somehow i'll definitly take it off ya hands :) I think the only way would be to open it and see if the gears are straight cut ( if TRD gears are straight cut) and also count input revolutions to output revs to measure ratios...

yeah, i thought it was pretty random too. the guy who sold it (to my mate who had a 4age ke35) was rallying an AE86 (might have been a 4aged 85) and threw it in cheap with a 22 spline output T50. its hard to sell a 4 speed these days though so its just been sitting around. i'll try and talk him in to cracking it open for a quick look for straight cut gears and maybe one night when we're bored we'll do the ratio thing.

don't suppose you've opened up a gearbox before??? is anything going to come flying out at us?

cheers
Matt

I would't recommend opening a gearbox, unless you know what you're doing. Its probably the most complicated mechanical part of the car, I've taken a K50 and a fwd (CG) Honda box apart, and never managed to get them back together, and I've rebuilt my fair share of motors.. theres too many parts and too much stuff to go wrong! :D

My advice would be to just find someone with a 2T and chuck it in, it only takes half an hour in a TE71... and then go for a huss! :D

I'll do some searchn, or maybe someone else will know what ratios TRD gears are. Easiest way to count accuratley is to say 10inputs revs, count outputs and divide....if ya know what im saying...

Ive got a workshop manual infront of me, and it is a bit of pissing around, but dont really need to mess with the box to open it up and inspect it.
Basiccaly
-drain
-remove bellhousing (DONT FORGET LOOSE thrust cones)
-remove speedo drive
-unbolt extension housing
-unbolt housing, and remove top (or left) half and then can inspect. measuring you backlash etc etc.

If you really want to i can scan the relevant pages.

i'll probably try the ratio's thing for now, done it before and worked it out ok.

just have to wait till i've got the spare time and motivation to do it, i'll try for the weekend but i'm going to try and get my lancer running so no guarantees

cheers
