Twin cam = dohc?

Postby Chickenman » Fri Jun 25, 2004 1:33 pm

My query is: What is the difference between twin cam and dohc? if any?
I have heard some people say that twin cam is different and also someone swear that twin cam was dohc.
Looking at my slanty engine compared to a mazda dohc engine.... I'm confused :?

as far as I know

DOHC is ALWAYs Twin cam (_DUAL_ overhead Cam_)

But I believe Twin Cam isnt always DOHC, as I'm pretty sure you can get non-overhead twin cams

I had a toyota branded DOHC it was TE 71 Corolla GT, i thought it was strange but i've seen pictures of those badges on the program that toyota dealers use to look up model numbers etc...just to be a smart c**t
The out of order of EFI it seems, don't you think? is, condition changes, whether which kind of, but don't you think? after removing the screw of the throttle?

Riley had twin cam pushrod engines. We're talking British 30s engines though.

But what do you call a single overhead cam V engine? Is it twin cam (has two cams just on different sides of the block) or DOHC?

When you think about it really, the cams aren't actually OVER the head at all.... They're IN the head!

There for it should be DIHC: Double In Head Cam.

But I guess they figured it sounds like you're saying D I C K! :D

overhead cam doesn't mean the cams are over the head, but infact, that they are "overhead" kinda like a plane flying "overhead". Overhead is relative to the cylinder. In a traditional pushrod engine, the cam is somewhere in the block, so overhead cam distinguishes a good engine from a crap dinosaur engine.

Of course if you really want to be pedantic, you should say camshaft, as cam would indicate it means each individual cam, so a twin cam would have only 2 cams (most 4 cyl 16v toyota camshafts have 8 cams per shaft), and realistically could only run one cylinder.
