Turbo seals/smoke??

Postby hoolio » Sun Jun 27, 2004 7:14 pm

Ive noticed Oil in the intake of the turbo(about a year ago!!!-oops!), doesnt appear to be from upstream as I have a catch can in place, Noticed today that it was blowing a little blue smoke at idle after a wee strop.
Oil consumption is probably around 3-400mls/1000klm.
The car may sit for 2weeks at a time without being used.
Ive run a search thru toyspeed on this subject, but any further input would be welcomed.
The intake pipe onto the turbo contained maybe 10mls of oil.
Anybody know how closely related the blue smoke at idle is to turbo oil seals- I could hazard a guess, but why guess.

Fivebob you out there?????

it sounds very much like turbo seals, you should get it fixed before one day they go completly and you loose your car in a cloud of smoke, thats going from personal exsperience

Most likely turbo seals, but before getting the turbo reconditioned check that the turbo oil return line is not kinked or blocked, your breather system is functioning properly (i.e. catch can is vented and PCV valve is working), and the air filter is not clogged. All of these can cause the same symptoms, also leaky valve seals will cause smoke at idle but not oil in the intake so that's not a likely cause.
