*update*

my engine is now really making a louder tapping noise, its not the real fast vibrating that im pretty sure is the vvt pulley now, put a tapping coming from the cylinder that it no.3 from the cambelt end,

been told its a few things, the engine was really low on oil, the guy at the garage said its probabaly been seeping thru the valve sleeve, someone else said its a sticky valve.

are sticky valves a rpoblem with these cars or has my car done waaaa more km's than i was lead to beleive?

Knocking noises

Postby AE111_modifier » Tue Jun 29, 2004 9:37 pm

Hay, I have a blacktop and it seems to be making the same noises as yours. I was told by the Toyota dealer that it might be the VVt pulley as well and he quoted me $900!!! for a new one. My engines only done 115000 k's.
Must of been all those times the rev counter hit 8000

its quite common for 4ages to run bearings if the oil gets down, they only have about 3ltrs in the sump.

i can do those pulleys for waaaay less than that, around $4-500

so what you guys suggest i do?

take my head apart and see whats wrong and rebuild it? or just rebuld the whole engine while im there?

has anyone got a link to a diagram for the inside of my head, ( or any twincam head for that matter) so i can see what all these parts are that people talk about.

oh yeah well if i go for the rebuld it will be done by a good mechanic,

either way im probabaly gonna still be buying som parts off ya warrick,

im sick of that vvt pully noise so i might just rip it off and go for adjustable cam gears

haha im not worried about sales, just trying to give good advice!

if you go to non vvt pullys youll lose drivability.

what i meant was for an acurate diagnosis go see a good mechanic, toyota is recommended! or any one els with experience in these engines
