Idle Problems

Postby §teven » Fri Jul 02, 2004 12:27 am

Hello guys,

Not to long ago brought a 1987 FXGT, all is going well. Quick car for a 1.6l, only problem is that it idles bloody hard when cold 2500rpm/3000rpm making it nearly impossible to drive when cold so its bloody annoying, its not so bad when its hot, idles at 1,000rpm which is a little on the high side.

Now the question is how on earth do I change the idle, my old car was carby so was easy to change but how on earth do you change it on a efi car as I have no idea  got to learn some how. So yeah if someone can give me simple to follow instructions on how to change the idle, or what else may be causeing this problem it would be a great help. Cheers in advance.

you should be able to find a screw on the throttle body... might be covered by a rubber cover or something

I thought it would have been a screw, but wasn't going to just start un-screwing random ones to see what happend. Thanks sounds like a simple fix.

be care ful tho if you trn it down too much then she may not hold idle wen shes warmed up, under the bonnet theres usuall a little screw, it could be that some one a previous owner has tightened the throttle cable.. thais can also giv that high idleing effect, givs goo response tho. mine idles at abotu 1 1/2
