Where is the adjustment for the handbrake in an AE101 and what is the correct method of tightening it?

This is for the 4 wheel disc version of AE101.

take out the console and there should be a little screw which you can turn to shorten the handbrake a bit. this will only shorten the distance in which you pull the handbrake.

if you have a luk at your rear wheels just behind the caliper there should be what looks like a butterfly screw or whatever you call it which you can use to tighten the handbrake cable.

as said ANY hnadbrake adjustment should be done on the rear shoes/disk, never on the handbrake itself.

i'll back that.

Never ever adjust the handbrake cable on any vehicle unless it has been previously tightened by someone else.

The correct method on drum brakes is to adjust the rear brakes themselves, as this will also adjust the handbrake.

With disc brakes the cable should only be adjusted to the point when the lever on the caliper sits on its stop and there is minimal slack in the cable.
If this is the case then you will have to remove the calipers from the rear discs. Wind the piston back a few turns, refit calipers and pump brake pedal hard about 20 times. Do NOT pull the handbrake lever untill you have pumped the pedal

Are they not self adjusting?. My ae92 was (rear disks), & my mate had a mazda with rear drums that self adjusted. I would have thought they were. Sometimes the adjusters get clogged with brake dust & need cleaning with break cleaner or similar.

yes they are self adjusting but with everything mechanical nothings perfect
