ae101 20v levin lowish k's or a ae111 BZ-G higher k's

Postby Voodoo » Mon Jul 05, 2004 9:55 pm

ok, i think its time i got a daily driver, so i can keep my ae for drifting dutys and the odd sunday stroll

anyway looking at a 20v levin ,trueno option, still semi quick, creature comforts and fairly eco, and i just couldnt get a honda

anyway there seems to be plenty around, just eyed a couple up, one is a ae101 5spd with around 90,000ish ks, the others a BZ-G black top 5spd but with around 150,000ks on the clock, now assuming the BZ-G's in great nic, car and engine wise would it be the one to go for, or stick with the lower k ae101 sliver top, both are around the same price

sorry if this is been ask all before, and flame me at will, but i carnt be bothered doing a search

Bit of a delemer. 150000km is quite high, but the 111 looks much better. Ive owen 2 101's & now ive got a 111. And i would never go back. I'd say keep looking for a 111 with a bit lower k's.

Keep in mind that back in the time when all the ae101's were imported speedo's are not the most reliable indication of the engine condition. Shitloads of jap imports from the early 90's have been wound back before comin over. I picked up a silvertop for the primary reason it was reading 75,000kms and its NZ history was legit, but turned out the engine and driveline was $&#$% as, it'd been well wound back. So yea, ur best bet is to get either one/both checked out, as long as they're holding excellent compression then you can probably be assured of a nice reliable toy.

K's shouldn't really be a problem with Toyota engines.
My MR2 has got 160xxx on it and still runs fine!
As long as you take good care of the engine, it should last for ages :)
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Problem is with cars with high kms, its not usually the engine that gives trouble, but stupid little things that are always needing to get done

i reckon it depends on the general condition of the car.

i have seen cars that have done 250,000 + k's and have still had a lot of life left in them and i have seen cars that have barely made it over 100k that are wasted, have been thrashed their whole lives and are screwed.

assuming the ae111 is in good nick and has good compression etc then it would be an easy choice for me.

Yip i agree with Raza. If the AE111 has been taken care of its an easy choice

even tho toyota engines run well with high kms they are slower than a lower km engine (expecially 20V's from experiance). and if its a cruising car would would want a lower km engine anyway if u are going to use it a bit, suppose in the end its up to you which one u like the best tho!

i'd be wary of any AE101 showing less than 100ks, those cars are at least 10 years old now.

since its only gonna be a daily driver, then maybe re-sale is a consideration for you? lower k's will always look better in that respect...

these two cars mentioned were around the 5k mark which is my buget for the daily driver as the 85 whats to eat some more of my funds,

but im not too worried about resale as ya not going to lose much from 5k ill would defenitly get a comp test on any car im looking at,but also looking at other options too
